Located a block away from Main Street in Chatham Village, you’ll fall in love with this delightful guest suite. 2.5 hours from NYC or Boston and 13 miles from the Hudson Amtrak station, the private guest suite is a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom charmer, close to nature but still only steps from shops, restaurants, a brewery, and a historic landmark movie theater. Explore the Hudson Valley and the Berkshires with this as your home base. The guest suite is a private space, attached to the main house, which is our primary residence. It has its own front door, porch, and private entrance, with no shared interior space. The house was originally built in 1820 by Dr. John Wheeler, a prominent physician who helped found the Chatham Library. The guest suite was added in the 1870's as a Victorian library, featuring high ceilings and wonderful light. There is a large bedroom with a queen-sized bed and tall windows with room-darkening curtains. In the bedroom is a 55" TV with Netflix, HBO, Disney+, etc, as well as a desk for remote work. An adjacent sitting room (with non-working fireplace) has a loveseat and coffee table, as well as a small table that folds down for dining. Off the sitting room is a small bathroom with a stall shower. Please note there is not a kitchen, but the sitting room has a mini-fridge, microwave, and Keurig machine. Coffee and tea are provided. Guests often pop over to the cafes on Main Street for breakfast, which open as early as 7am and are a block away. Bartlett House (6-minute drive) is also a great breakfast option and is open daily 8am-2pm. And Our Daily Bread is a 10 minute walk or 3 minute drive away, open most days 9am-3pm. Guests have private access to the entire suite, as well as the front porch sitting area. We are usually onsite, since the house is our primary residence, but we respect our guests' privacy. We're available at any time by phone or text, even if we happen to be away during your stay. Street parking in front of the house in always available. Walking to Main Street takes 2 minutes. CHATHAM VILLAGE The guest suite is a one-block walk from the Main St. in Chatham Village, which has tons to offer: coffee shops, a delicious cheese/sandwich/provisions shop, two pizzerias, the Chatham Brewery, the People's Pub, and yummy restaurants such as Bimi's Canteen, Fiesta Cafe, Chatham Grill, and Yianni’s. You'll also find a cozy bookstore, clothing stores, creative home goods shops, and the Crandell Theatre, a historic landmark movie house that shows both blockbusters and independent films. A five-minute drive away, you'll hit Bartlett House, a cafe with exquisite pastries as well as delicious salads, sandwiches, and great coffee (and vegan options!). EXPLORING THE AREA Hudson, NY and Great Barrington, MA are each 20 minutes away. 35 minutes to Albany. The area offers many amazing hikes and pristine conservation areas within a 5-10 minute drive. You can explore outdoor sculpture in Art Omi's sprawling natural setting (5 minutes away), go to a dance performance at PS21, explore the nature trails at Seigel-Kline Kill, Ooms Conservation Area, or High Falls. Or go skiing at one of the many accessible nearby mountains, like Butternut, Catamount, Jiminy Peak, or a little farther away—Hunter. We're always happy to provide recommendations!
