Our family has built on over 20 years of professional experience and personal passion in travel, community work, and the joys and lessons of life to build a home where we truly want to live. We warmly welcome guests to share this space. You are welcome to rest and relax; fill your days with fun cultural activities; hike, bike, or retreat and recharge through meditation and forest bathing. Families love seeing their children's excitement: feeding our colourful fish, picking fresh vegetables from our home garden, helping to cook, and trying their hand at weaving or making a local snack! Couples, friends and colleagues love the peaceful atmosphere, fresh air, freedom to explore nature and the local community on foot or by bike (free), or using our online-map to explore, visit local restaurants and coffee shops, and meet local artisans, selling unique crafts from their homes. The first thing guests notice on arrival is our large fish pond, with playful carp dancing through the water. The sun sets and rises over this pond, which often creates a rich, palette of striking reflections and colours. The peaceful atmosphere is enriched by the surrounding rice paddy and forested hills. Overlooking the fish pond, are two charming, loft-style guest houses. Each guest house sleeps 5 people, comfortably. There is a master bedroom with 1 double bed, a separate twin bedroom with 2 single beds, and a spacious sofa bed in the living room, which is perfect for kids or teenagers. Or, if you prefer to sleep on a camp bed, just let us know. We also have a cot for babies, free on request. There is 1 toilet and shower in each guest house; plus an additional 3 toilets and showers onsite. Each guest house has a kettle and toaster, cups, spoons, tea and coffee, etc. to make hot drinks and snacks. We have plenty of books, and a set of fun games to keep children occupied and happy. Our guest houses were designed and crafted by a local, Chiang Mai architect, from reclaimed and restored wood. The living room is warmed with a mosaic of wood tones, complemented by the gentle, natural earth tones of the walls and ceiling. Many charming features, including our cushions, curtains, curtain rings, hand basins, bathroom tiles, and lampshades were hand and heart made by local community members, living in our village. Meanwhile, the loft design ensures good airflow, balancing coziness with space and freshness. All bedrooms have both fans and air conditioning. Guests love our beautiful, spacious garden, to admire the sunset, watch birds and butterflies, and play frisbee and football. Our garden pavilion and kitchen, where breakfast is served, is a great space for eating and relaxing. Guests are welcome to use the kitchen for cooking, and garden for barbecue. We offer a choice of fresh, healthy and delicious Thai and western breakfast items. Delicious Thai and local Northern Thai dinners can be arranged with advanced notice. We are also happy to recommend good, local restaurants. We can even arrange a home meal, with a family in the village. Guests at Harmony@HuaiLan, can enjoy a menu of wellness activities. Other things to note Located in the heart of the rice fields and local community, our family take the 'eco' part of our warm and welcoming 'Home Ecolodge' to heart. While offering our guests everything you need for a cozy and comfortable stay, we are also taking meaningful action to benefit people and nature. An international award by the Good Travel Seal (GTS) recognizes our commitment and action. Harmony@Huailan Home Ecolodge was selected by Thailand's Science Research and Innovation (TSRI) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a case study for small scale, low carbon accommodation. Below are 10 concrete actions, which we are already taking to benefit the environment: ✓Over 90% of the wood used to build our guest houses is reclaimed and restored from old houses; ✓ Over 80% of our electricity is generated onsite, sustainably, from 10 kw of solar with a battery; ✓ We carefully selected superior quality, energy and water efficient equipment. This includes top of the range, highest-rated energy efficient inverter air conditioning units, energy efficient water heaters, energy efficient refrigerators, warm LED lights, and water saving toilets and showers. ✓ The lights used throughout our garden are 100% independently solar powered; ✓ We have a unique, small scale, solar powered wastewater treatment system, using live microbes; ✓ We have designated wild areas for small-scale carbon capture and local habitat conservation; ✓ We buy almost all of our food and beverages locally, and proudly and actively support community based tourism in our village; ✓ We decorated our guest houses with sustainably harvested rattan products, hand-woven by local community members in our village; ✓ We are an active member of Thailand Carbon Neutral Network; and recognised, best practice case for small-scale, low carbon accommodation in Thailand. ✓ We host students and study groups, to raise awareness, share our work and inspire other Micro and Small businesses to apply lessons learned. Our Microbes Need You! We have a wonderful, organic water treatment system, which relies on living microbes! To keep our microbes alive and heathy, we ask our guests to please use the organic soap and shampoo which we provide for your convenience, and to please not use strong laundry detergents or flush antiseptics, medicines or other cleaning liquids into the toilet, or the sink. If you need to do laundry, just ask us, and we will help. If you have any questions, we are very happy to answer. Finally, we promise that our efforts to be 'green' and 'good' will make your stay more fun and enjoyable! We warmly welcome you to Harmony@HuanLan, and trust you will have an enjoyable, rejuvenating, and memorable stay.
