Please check the◎ facility details before making a reservation◎ About Kikori House In September 2023, a lumber company, Ogura, in the mountains of Minamiaizu-machi, Fukushima Prefecture, turned a house they created with a thorough commitment to wood into a rental house. Ogura is the descendant of a woodworker who lived with wood. Questioning modern housing that relies on 24-hour air conditioning for comfort, we created a space that feels like a wooden sunbeam, where you can feel the natural wind and sunlight while inside the house. While taking advantage of traditional Japanese carpentry techniques, you can stay comfortably without any inconvenience by incorporating modern facilities. On a dark night when you can see many stars, the sound of birds and the wind, and powdery snow that is so smooth that you can't make snowballs. Feel the magnificent nature of Minamiaizu with all five senses. There are few restaurants nearby that are open late, but the open kitchen is stocked with special cooking utensils, dishes, and basic condiments, so we recommend cooking for yourself. The space The first floor has a spacious living room with a wood stove, kitchen, Japanese-style room, toilet, washroom, and bathroom. The large open space on the second floor serves as a bedroom, desk, and kids space. Living Room There is a large wood stove in the center of the living room and this one unit can warm the entire house even in the cold Minamiaizu The building is made of natural, unpolluted materials and retains its warmth once warmed. You can go out to the spacious wooden deck from the living room. There are camp chairs, so you can relax while feeling the breeze. Kitchen The spacious kitchen, with sunlight shining in, is stocked with special tableware, cooking utensils, and basic condiments collected from all over Japan. ▶Appliances: Fridge/freezer, microwave, oven toaster, rice cooker, electric kettle, coffee mill ▶Cooking utensils: Knives, cutting boards, frying pans, pots, earthenware pots, cassette stoves, bowls, strainers, peelers, slicers, turners, ladles, graters, tongs, cooking chopsticks ▶Seasonings: sugar, salt, miso, soy sauce, vinegar, cooking alcohol, sesame oil, olive oil, potato starch, dashi ▶Others: BBQ set, coffee beans, drip set, black tea ▶We also sell rice (¥100/1 cup) and local sake (cash or Paypay/LINE Pay) Bedrooms 1F Japanese-style room: 4 futons 2nd floor Western-style room: 1 queen bed, 4 single beds The solid, heavy domestic oak beds have been carefully finished by furniture craftsmen with wood that has been naturally dried for many years. We only have one mass-produced bed frame, so please try it out. All linens that touch the skin are made of organic cotton. BATHROOMS Bathtub and shower Shampoo, body soap, and conditioner (all Mammababy) Other items Bluetooth speakers and projectors are available in the living room. BBQ tools and charcoal are available for use. Firewood for one night is free (additional ¥ 500/bundle) Guest access You can freely use the building, except for the locked room. Other things to note BBQ and fireworks are allowed. Please be very careful when starting and extinguishing fires. No smoking inside. Pets are not allowed in the building. Studded tires are required from November to April. ・ If the equipment in the building is damaged or significantly soiled, you will be charged a separate repair fee and cleaning fee. ・ There is no air conditioning because we emphasize incorporating the natural climate. ・ Because it is in a mountainous area, there may be a lot of insects (such as wasps in summer and beetles in autumn) depending on the season.
