Built in 1902 and restored in 1988, we have tried to keep true to the authenticity of a working Vermont farmhouse. Thus the name of the farm Antiquity Acres. Here you will find, a quiet place to rest, away from noise but minutes to Stowe on a beautiful dead end road with picturesque views. A private working horse farm sitting on 90 acres of open pastoral land with mountain views, complete with 2 spring fed swimming ponds, and walking trails. The house is quite unique, over 100 years old, completely restored with tin ceilings, architectural details, cozy and comfortable. It's very quiet, a perfect place for artists, and writers to get inspired, or just to unplug from technology. The wrap around porch is amazing for morning coffee as is the patio which faces the pond and the mountains, a perfect place to have a glass of wine and watch the sun go down. There are different wings to the house and the bedrooms are apart on each wing. There is a Queen size bed in the upstairs room facing the pond, a twin bed in the tower, and a double bed downstairs. There are several common space areas to choose from, either relaxing on the overstuffed sofa overlooking the pond and mountains or being warmed by the fire with a good book. The grounds and lawn are private and extensive, with a variety of lawn games to play. Swimming or kayaking in the spring fed swimming pond which is has a sandy beach. Floating on a air mattress is a refreshing way to spend a hot afternoon. The beauty of being surrounded by horses and the idyllic pastoral countryside make for a very relaxing atmosphere especially if your lounging in a hammock. For stargazers there is a fire pit in the backyard with Adirondack chairs and blankets at the ready. In the morning, I provide a continental breakfast, usually fresh baked goods, yogurt, homemade granola, juice, coffee or tea. This is a working horse farm, I have 4 of my own plus 2 boarders, so occasionally you may meet one of the owners working their horses. Guests can use most of the house, besides my studio on the basement floor and my wing of the house which is separate. Guests can use the fireplace room, and the living room and if you'd like to use the kitchen for cooking,(please let me know in advance) outdoor shower, porch, ponds, all the grounds, fire pit, and patio. If there is something that you need, I'll try to accommodate it. I only rent to one party at a time so you will pretty much have the place to yourselves. There is no smoking anywhere on the grounds. I do live here in the house with my 2 dogs, it’s working farm. I am usually busy, either teaching, painting or working somewhere on the farm. I'll be around as much as you need me to be and can advise you on things to do or introduce you to the horses. Mostly you'll see me bringing you some fresh baked goodies or something to snack on by the fire. The neighborhood, is quiet and picturesque with the closet neighbor 1/4 mile up the road. We all look after each other here being on a dead end road and most people always slow down when they see someone walking. The location is perfect for walking, running or biking, yet 9 mins to a grocery store and less than 15 mins to the Stowe area. There are mountain bike trails 1 1/2 miles from the house which lead to a local trail system. There are 3 major ski areas close by, Stowe and Smugglers and Jay Peak not too far away. Super quiet, a step back in time, with the rich detail of the house, an "over the river and through the woods " kind of feeling! Because I do live in a rural area, in the winter it’s best to have an all wheel drive, or at least snow tires. however the town keeps the gravel roads very passable in the winter. After booking, make sure to copy and paste the address.DON'T Click the map or the "directions" button in the reservation. (It will take you to a cornfield) In the winter, during a storm as in any area, allwheel drive is recommended. I can always retrieve you or get you to your destination , should you need help. I have 2 dogs who live with me in the house, a small dog named Barley and large dog, Hans. Guests should not let the dogs outside as they tend to get into mischief and keep bedroom doors shut so they don’t look for food. I also have extra mountain bikes, snowshoes and kayaks you could use to enjoy the outside with. The spring fed pond is very clean , is 18' deep with a sandy beach, great for swimming in. I usually have floats to use for spending a hot afternoon floating In the pond. If we're lucky in the winter, I sometimes have a fire down there and shovel it off for skating depending on the conditions and how much snow we received. In winter take caution driving on Vermonts back roads, they are ditched deeply on the sides for drainage, so stay away from the edges when there's alot of snow!
