Description
Come enjoy the magic of our stunning, spacious, serene house and garden, with a beautiful swimming pool surrounded by vineyards and forests, in a lovely village with a boulangerie, far away from it all, yet 10 minutes by car from a big shopping centre and Lons le Saunier, the capital of the Jura. Lakes, rivers, forests, cycling, kayaking, gorging, horseriding, skiing on your doorstep/short drive away. Lots of culture: music, expositions, theatre, cinema. Great restaurants in nearby villages/Lons The space This is a very spacious, comfortable, peaceful and beautiful family home, recently renovated. See attached photos with headings. IN WINTER YIU WILL NEED WINTER TYRES TO TRAVEL WITHIN THE JURA *** PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS A BIG DEEP POND IN THE GARDEN (SEE PHOTOS), UNFENCED - PARENTS MUST WATCH CHILDREN, AND NOT ALLOW PETS TO JUMP IN.*** The available accommodation is 4 beautiful spacious double bedrooms and 1 small comfortable double bedroom with its own lovely balcony overlooking the garden, see photos: BATHROOMS: 2. One en-suite; one separate. TOILETS: 3 toilets in the house, and 3 toilets outside (two dry ones) . SITTING ROOM: There is a stunning and very big sitting room with a billiard table, a piano and a fire place, giving out on the terrace leading to the garden. DINING ROOM: There is a lovely, elegant dining room, with a beautiful view on the garden and sunsets to die for... SUMMER KITCHEN: In summer, there is a supplementary summer kitchen, fully equipped, with a big table, a fridge and a dishwasher (no hot water). Please note that while attractive and very useful, with a beautiful view on the garden, it is VERY RUSTIC, with no glass doors only transparent plastic partitions, and a concrete floor. Hence it gets easily dusty (including on top of the fridge etc), and leaves can come in each day. The equipment is also mainly recycled. The summer kitchen is therefore just an additional facility we make available to our guests if they want to use it in hot weather, as it remains very cool even in hottest temperatures, and the garden is easier to access from it than from the main kitchen. SWIMMING POOL: We have a beautiful swimming pool, which can be heated at extra charge (we have not had the need to do so as it gets very warm here in summer). CHILDREN ARE TO BE SUPERVISED AT ALL TIMES BY THEIR PARENTS. There is a lovely pergola next to the pool, with shaded seats and a table. Other things to note SOME PLACES TO VISIT: Le Regardoir Restaurant above Plage de la Mercantine is a must - good food and amazing views on the lake. Plage de la Mercantine is lovely, as are two other beaches - Le Surchauffant et Bellecin, all on the beautiful turquoise Lac de Vouglans. The Surchauffant beach has also a couple of lovely restaurants next to it. Mercantine a small beautiful cafe/restaurant all outdoors overlooking the port. Also Lac de Chalain is a beauty - in particular the Doucier and le Domaine beaches. All surrounded by trees and great walks. There is also a v nice little town on a couple of smallish lakes - Clairvaux-les-Lacs. Great for kids. Baumes-les-Messieurs is magic, with its old Abbey and its Casades des Tuffes (waterfall), and its fantastic caves; as is the amazing Chateau- Chalon village perched on a hill overlooking the valley with lots of great restaurants (le Bouchon du Chateau has got the best reputation; Le Petit Castel has absolutely amazing views from its terrace - you can just have coffee or a drink there, but check that it is open). Le Grand Jardin in B-les- M is an excellent restaurant too - book though as all very popular in summer. Finally Cascades du Hérisson (waterfalls) are beautiful and several, seen on a long walk up or down - except that there is probably v little or no water at the waterfalls in summer when we experience heat waves (this year not bad, last year a couple). I think they are still worth visiting - but early or late, not recommended during the day as masses of tourists nowadays. Parking may be difficult to find. Autour de l'Âtre is a local restaurant in a small gorgeous village lost in the hills 10 minutes by car from us. It is wonderful - but a bit pricey, so for a special occasion. Well worth it. You don't choose the menu - there are two changing all the time, 4 small dishes or 6 dishes, the chef (trained in Paris) offers you the wines to go with it. Champ Divin winery behind our property - 3 minutes away on foot - Valerie et Fabrice make wonderful organic wine and sell it - worth whie trying to see if she can fit you in. Not always possible to taste if they are busy in summer - but they sell usually. Their Cremant du Jura is marvellous, as is their Chardonnay. We have another couple of local wine makers in the village; and there are loads all around us. Le Vin Jaune is a speciality from here - one needs to get used to it however - a v distinct taste. An expensive wine too. Finally a bit further away towards Geneva - le Lac des Rousses. Love it. It has a wonderful wonderful restaurant Le Chalet du Lac - terrace ovelooking the lakes, spacious inside; and beautiful food, reasonably priced. 1h 15 minutes away - well worth it if you are going to walk around in the high mountains there. Walks - check out walks around all the lakes (there are several more to the ones I mention), my favourite one is the walk of the 4 lakes (randonnée des quatre lacs). Beautiful view from the Belvédère des Quatre Lacs, Pic de l'Aigle. Cycling - a paradise including for mountain/trail cycling . Rockclimbing - lots of great places, I suggest googling as I don't do rock climbing (sadly, too scared!). Caving - plenty, ditto. Canyoning - marvellous. Gorges de Malvaux; Gorges de Langoulettes. I used a company called Manawa. And - we even have castles (Châteaux). Lots in ruins but beautiful to see nonetheless - eg Château de Chevreaux; and some still standing - eg Château de Frontenay. Lons le Saunier, 10 minutes by car from us - a lovely small town, v lively. Has got a beautiful theatre, a gorgeous square on which the theatre is located (with a water fountain coming from the ground in summer, perfect to run into to cool off), with a number of cafes, Grand Theatre my favourite - but also Cafe de Strasbourg. AMAZING MUSIC SCENE: check out Le Boeuf sur le Toit and Le Darius (in my view a smaller version of Ronny Scotts in London!).
