The space We welcome you into the Bird’s Nest Studio, perched on the second floor of our home. You will enter the front door and walk into our home. The private entrance to the studio is just steps away. This unique retreat is a true "home away from home" experience that we've created for our guests, located in the heart of Lake Mills – minutes from everything our thriving lake town has to offer. You’ll also find many extra amenities sprinkled in - water, tea, coffee, snacks, bathroom essentials, ironing board/iron, hangers, free movies and more! Bird’s Nest Studio (BNS) is the perfect place to rest your head and relax after a concert or event in Milwaukee or Madison, visiting family in the area, looking for a quiet retreat, girl’s getaway, a weary business traveler needing a quiet night's rest, staying for a wedding, celebrating a birthday or anniversary, or a perfect overnight experience if exploring all that Lake Mills has to offer – all year round! You will have your own private space within our home -- The entire second floor is solely for our guests’ use. After settling into the BNS, enjoy the bird's-eye view with plenty of natural lighting. Curl up with a book in the cozy sitting area while enjoying a complimentary snack. Forgot a book? Guests can take advantage of the reading materials we have to offer during their stay… from Wisconsin history, to beer, birds, crossword puzzles, and many topics in between! Don’t feel like reading? Enjoy watching one of your Netflix shows on the Smart TV or even watch the news on one of our 40 local channels. Need to check emails? Use the well-appointed desk space. OR perhaps you would like to unwind by entering the unique, adjoining space we've created for our guests to enjoy "next-level" relaxation. We invite you to go down the “Rabbit Hole” for a special experience in this intimate space! Perfect space to combat sensory overload and is prime for meditation, yoga (with provided mats, ball, block & more), prayer, sketching, quiet time, reading, or just resting. Before bed take a nice hot shower in the private, modern, & clean bathroom. Then unwind and cozy up with a cup of hot tea before bed. Convenient – Our home is located just 1.5 blocks from the lake with public pier access, where you can enjoy fishing, sitting, playing, floating, watching a beautiful sunset, and a great entry point for kayaks and paddle boards. Just a straight-shot, few minute walk to the pier. (You can see the lake from our home, right down the street). We are just a short walk to (free) Bartel's Beach and quaint downtown Lake Mills with restaurants, brewery & winery-- and much more! In addition, just a couple minutes drive to many beautiful hiking, biking, walking trails and Sandy Beach. The Johnson Creek Premium Outlet Mall is located just 11 minutes away from the studio - a popular destination for our guests! Lake Mills is conveniently located about 25 minutes from Madison and 50 minutes from Milwaukee, directly off I 94. Easy on and off the interstate. We are 25 minutes from the Dane County Airport, 1 hour from Milwaukee Mitchell Airport, and 2 hours from Chicago O'Hare Airport. Guest access While in the Studio upstairs in our home, you’ll enjoy complete privacy in a clean, comfy, unique, & cheery atmosphere with all the amenities you’d need (and didn't know you needed) to enjoy a true "home away from home" experience. Private parking in our driveway will allow you to come and go easily. Just pull up and park in the space on the left-hand side of the driveway. No worries if you arrive in the dark – our home is “lit up”, along with illuminated numbers on the keyless entry for your convenience. Once you enter the front door and walk into our home, the private entrance to the studio is just steps away. You'll see the “Bird’s Nest Studio” door, identified with a sign, just beyond the large lighted lantern welcoming you in. There is a privacy lock on the door to the space for your use. Note: the stairs leading up to the studio have a more shallow stair tread. Railings on both sides allow for safe entry. Other things to note For your added convenience, we have compiled plenty of local recommendations – they’ll be waiting for you at the Information Table within the studio, along with a Guidebook to All Things Outdoors in Lake Mills, that we created special for our guests! The studio has its’ own temperature zone, so you can control the heat and air conditioning for your comfort. We ask you kindly please turn the air conditioning off if you choose to open the windows. You are renting the Bird's Nest Studio space on the second floor of our home; we kindly ask that you please be respectful of our space on the main floor. Guests will not have access to the owner's private spaces on the main floor (kitchen, dining room, backyard, etc.). Note: There are many parks and beaches nearby for grilling. The Bird’s Nest Studio (BNS) is not handicap accessible. Children under 6 years of age are not allowed. We are pet-free, vape/smoke-free, & no candles, please. We do have a Tornado Response plan for our guests posted in the BNS with simple steps that inform our guests where to shelter in place in case of a weather emergency. Guest safety is a priority to us!
