The space Rustic Off-Grid Retreat at the Tsitsikamma Wolf Sanctuary Embrace Nature, Embrace the Wild If you're looking for a cozy, luxury escape, THIS IS NOT IT! But if you crave an authentic, off-the-grid experience where nature calls the shots, welcome to the Tsitsikamma Wolf Sanctuary. Nestled in the stunning Tsitsikamma region of South Africa, surrounded by mountains, the Elands River, pine plantations, and indigenous forests, our sanctuary offers a truly wild retreat. This is not your average getaway—it's a chance to unplug, unwind, and immerse yourself in the hauntingly beautiful howl of wolves under the starry night sky. The Sanctuary is a working farm, and is open to the public 7 days per week, except Christmas Day and New Years Day. The accommodation at the Sanctuary is part of our self-sustainability programs as the Sanctuary is a registered non-profit organisation, with the sole aim of taking care of wolves who have fallen victim to the exotic pet trade in SA. The accommodation units are at the Sanctuary, therefore you may see some people about during work hours, and we are constantly busy with our daily responsibilities involved with taking care of the wolves. There are also other animals, such as chickens, a cocky cockerel, cats, a couple of donkeys, and geese occasionally. They are part of the family to us, but may be a bit noisy to others. The Tsitsikamma is known for its rainfall, hence it being lush and green all year round. Since we are a working farm in the heart of the Tsitsikamma, and our accommodation is rustic, and not insulated, the rain and/or wind may challenge you at times. We do try and make it as comfortable and warm as possible, but the weather does pose challenges sometimes. If you are up for the challenge, and the experience of staying amongst the wolves, and tuning into your wild side, then this is for you. If you are afraid of getting your shoes dirty, and need your luxuries, we will not be offended if you do not decide to book with us. Rustic Wooden Cabins - 2 Cabins Available: Each features a comfortable double bed with bedding and towels provided. -SHARED Bathrooms: Equipped with a bath (no shower), the one bathroom with the bath only is situated in between the two cabins, so pretty close to the other cabin. During peak season, you may need to share this bathroom with fellow guests. There is option to use the campsite shower room, with a hot shower. Again, shared with other guests and volunteers. -Bush Kitchen: A self-catering, free-standing kitchen equipped with a fridge-freezer, gas stove, and all the basic cutlery and crockery you'll need. In peak seasons, you may have to share with other guests. - Outdoor Cooking: Enjoy the communal braai area and fire pit for those warm summer evenings. - Important to Note: During peak season, the area outside the cabins is a communal space/visitor's waiting area from 09h00 to 16h00. After 16h00, it becomes your private haven. Teepee Glamping - 2 Teepees Available: 1 King room and 1 Twin room. - Completely Off-Grid: There are NO electrical connections inside the teepees. Rechargeable solar lights are provided for both indoor and outdoor use. - Communal Facilities: Bathroom (shower & toilet), bush kitchen (with gas stove, but NO FRIDGE), fire pit, and braai area. - Eco-Conscious Living: Powered entirely by solar energy. Please be mindful of your electricity use. This Experience Isn't for Everyone This isn't glamping with all the modern comforts—this is rustic, off-grid living where you'll have to embrace unpredictable weather, communal spaces, and a true back-to-nature lifestyle. If you're not ready to rough it, this might not be the experience for you. Accommodation Fees Include: - A Day Pass and Guided Tour of the sanctuary (valued at R300 per person), where you'll learn the stories of our rescued wolves and wolf dogs. Ready to disconnect from the world and reconnect with nature? Book your stay now—but only if you're truly ready for a wild adventure. Guest access Full access to the Tsitsikamma Wolf Sanctuary during the day, and partial acceMost of the Wolf Sanctuary is openly accessible to visitors staying in the cabins and your accommodation cost includes an educational guided tour of the Sanctuary. There are permanent residents residing on the other side of the Sanctuary, so these areas are private. Nowhere do you have access into ANY of the wolf enclosures, ever. We are a non-touch facility. We do not allow any interactions with the wolves within their enclosures, although sometimes they do want to come and say hi to you through the fence. We ask that you respect the wolves and their space by not being loud or shouting, playing loud music or teasing or feeding of the animals. Wolves are very skittish by nature and we try and keep them stress-free at all times. But feel free to wonder respectfully between the enclosures at any time, keeping in mind that they are wild animals and will bite fingers if tempted. We will not tolerate any misconduct towards the wolves and we hold the right to ask you to leave the premises if we come across such or if you attempt to enter into any of the enclosures (they do bite!) Our wolves and their livelihood are our main priority and we make it our life's mission to give them the best stress-free and peaceful home that we can provide. Never put your hands near the fence.ss during the night. Other things to note The Experience: We are rustic, and off the grid. When it rains, which it does most of the time, it does get muddy. The cabins are not insulated and can be breezy. We reuse and reuse things, so it may seem a bit eclectic. The accommodation at the Sanctuary is part of our sustainability programs and fundraising for the wolves. 100% of the accommodation funds go directly into the non-profit. No one profits out of the accommodation. By staying at the Sanctuary, you are supporting the wolves. The Sanctuary is a working farm. Wolves eat meat, and the meat does get processed from start to finish at the Sanctuary. There may be a whiff of ripe meat in the air at times, although, we do take extra care to keep the enclosures clean, and meat processing out of sight. The Water: Our water is brown! We have fresh Tsitsikamma water from the mountains, flowing into the river. The high iron content and tannins in the water stains anything white, e.g. baths, sinks, clothes...don't fret when you climb into a reddish brown bath of water! It is not unhealthy to drink, but can be unpalatable. We can provide filtered drinking water but if you can bring your own, this might be a good idea. The Weather: The Tsitsikamma is called "the place of many waters". It rains a lot! And the weather changes very quickly. If you can bring a good pair of water-proof shoes or boots and a rain jacket then you will be fine. Some places can be a bit muddy. The cabins are not insulated which means it can be a bit breezy at times, so bring warm clothes during any time of the year. We do provide blankets and bedding, so you will be fine. Summer months bring the mosquitoes, so we can provide you with a mosquito net, upon request.
