Description

The Dorothy Brett cabin is one of four built at the beginning of last century, originally for sheep herders. Both Aldous Huxley and D.H. Lawrence lived and wrote in these cabins. Dorothy Brett was a frequent visitor, and later Elizabeth Kubler Ross and Ram Dass stayed here. Dorothy Brett painted in this valley and was ecstatic to have sold a painting for three hundred dollars to a Mrs. Millicent Rogers. She was one of three, together with Mabel Dodge Lujan and Frieda Lawrence, as they formed the iconic figures that one of the early photographs depict. This small yet well equipped log cabin, designed for 1-2 people, has a cozy and quiet feel. The small porch overlooks a flower garden and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The cabin is a one room efficiency/duplex with a full bathroom and kitchen. There is a wood burning stove and a heat pump for colder days. Wake up to an early morning bird song and sit on the porch with a cup of coffee. For one or two, the quietude is all-embracing. Nightly rates depend on the season: $68 – 79/night, plus tax and a cleaning fee. $10 extra pp. Please note that this cabin is part of a duplex.
