The David Farmhouse
Description
Deep in the piney-woods of Mississippi, atop the highest point in Jackson County, our old farmhouse sits on a 160 acres of peace and tranquility. Built by our great grandparents, the historic home began as a classic "dog trot" structure in 1876. The space A "dog trot" was an affordable style of raised-frame construction in the 1800s. Two, fully enclosed rooms were separated by an open breezeway, all of which were under one roof. Summertime heat meant sleeping outside in the breezeway between the two rooms, while winters could be spent indoors, in the two rooms each with its own fireplace. As incomes allowed the breezeways were closed in over time, kitchens built and adjoined, and other additions made. Today there are essentially 11 rooms including the full-length loft upstairs, 1 kitchen, 2 baths, and 3 porches to enjoy. Guest access All indoor spaces are available for you and your guests. Accommodations are modest as this home is still much like it was over the past century - bouncy floors, drafty windows, and minimal modern conveniences. Other things to note Beautiful views of pecan orchards, horses, barns, birdlife, and sunsets can be had from the front porch. Surrounded by woods in every direction for dozens of miles, the location of the property is 15 miles or so from the nearest town, Vancleave, MS. and another 5 miles to further to get to Interstate-10. At night the stars are so bright they cast shadows. A full moon will blind you.
