Friendly, helpful, fun host :-) The space Students, Visitors, Newcomers, Workers, Workshop Attendees, Tourists, LBGT, Congregants to Synagogues 1-2 blocks away, All are Welcome! Cook and enjoy the kitchen and charcoal grill, sunny deck, garden delights! Kayak when the weather is warm, and when the van is working and available = most of the time! The bathroom is next to the bedroom, just a couple of steps through the hall. At night and morning, I keep a curtain closed at the end of the hall so you have privacy of your own bathroom. I use the upstairs bathroom. A few extra, clean bathrobes and slippers are in the closet for your use. Borrow stuff you need- camping supplies, sewing supplies, printer. 3 lake kayaks are ready for paddling at Lake Washington. Paddling along the perimeter trail at Seward Park is a summer/fall delight, and a great way to start the day. Use my old van to take the kayaks to the lake. I'll help you! The lake is safe without any currents, biting fish, or animals! Sometimes the van might be out of town or in the shop. If kayaking is essential to your stay here, please inquire and I'll let you know if the van is working fine and is in town. Usually, yes! The house is clean and very comfortable, easy to be in, very homey, and full of good energy! Lots of pretty crafts from travels, mostly to Latin America. The bedroom is large, like a good-sized studio, with a firm comfy queen bed, dresser, W/D, WIFI, TV, Netflix, bookcase, armoire, some books, comfortable chair, and 2 table and chairs. Maybe one table for eating and one table for computers or crafts. The kitchen has a microwave, slow cooker, Cuisinart, coffee maker, complete cooking tools. Feel free to cook and eat in the kitchen and use the well-stocked basics- flour, spices, oil, grains, coffee, tea, condiments, etc. Enjoy a complimentary morning breakfast of juice, coffee, cereal, and fruit- you serve. In the garden- Rhubarb, raspberries, potatoes, kale and collard greens are ready to pick. I will need to go through the room once or twice a week (with your permission) to do my laundry (large washer is in the basement). I love our neighborhood because our zip code is 98118, famously the most diverse neighborhood in the country. Lots of people proudly put '98118' bumper stickers on their cars! While the neighborhood continues to gentrify with million dollar houses, the neighborhood is marvelously diverse- I live nearby Jewish synagogues, a Vietnamese church, many stores and restaurants of many cultures. My neighborhood is quiet, hilly, and pretty. The house is less than a mile to Lake Washington and PCC Food Coop and 1 mile to Columbia City. Columbia City is expanding and slowly stretching south toward my neighborhood. I think a car may be useful to get into the mountains and countryside. But you can easily bus. The #7 bus comes frequently on Rainier Avenue. #7 takes you downtown. #9 bus takes you to Capital Hill. Seward Park is a gem- old growth forest, incredible view of Mt. Rainier, swimming, picnicking, kayaking. Look up "Graham Hill Elementary School" for a map and directions; I live across the street. I'm a friendly person and glad to help you with vacation ideas. The room is large enough and with nice amenities, so that you can easily enjoy hours and days alone. Let me know what you might need to be comfortable! I enjoy guests and would like to help make your Seattle visit a wonderful and memorable experience! Come and play! Guest access Enjoy your huge bedroom, kitchen for storing food and cooking, eating and visiting, and a wonderful deck with western views. Free breakfast of cereal, fruit, milk, yogurt, coffee and tea. Bathrobe and slippers, games, books in the armoire. Washer/dryer/detergent in room. Bathroom is a few steps from the guest room. There is a curtain, closed in the hallway, so the bathroom is private at night and when you are home. During the day, when you are home, I use the upstairs bathroom. While you are away from the house, I may use the downstairs bathroom, if you don't mind. Welcome to basic stock food items such as oils, spices, flours, and grains. Also welcome to sundries you might need- paper, office supplies, printer use, tape, first aid stuff, camping and picnic supplies, etc. Share reading the Seattle Times newspaper in the morning. I keep the living room and study as private space, when I'm home. I'll keep you posted when I am away from the house for extended hours, so you may enjoy the living room. Use of WiFi, basic cable TV and Netflix. Free use of kayaks and van to transport the kayaks, assuming the van is available and working fine- it is usually reliable! Kayaking is a lovely way to start the day, incredible views of Mt. Rainier from Seward Park. Seward Park is divine- away from cars, an old-growth rain forest peninsula, surrounded by water. Sometimes the van is out of commission or I've taken the van out of town. So if kayaking is essential to your stay at my house, please contact me to make sure that I'm not away on a little camping trip. And I can never assure you 100% that the old van is working, but it usually is in front of the house and ready to go! If I am available, I'll drive you to the lake and pick you up. If I am not available, we can discuss if you might drive the van. If you arrive without a car, when I'm available, I'm happy to drive you to a grocery store to stock up on groceries. If I'm available, I may be able to drive you to the airport for a lower-than-taxi fee ($20). I do not usually do airport arrivals, due to plane delays. Try Uber or taxi service, or light rail if you are traveling light. When I am available, I'm glad to drive you to light rail. During your stay I try to take your lead with interactions. I'm a friendly and helpful person. I enjoy visiting with guests. I've learned that some guests enjoy chatting and discussing travel ideas; other guests enjoy more privacy and the pleasures of discovering their own travel plans. Other things to note I live walkable distance to three Jewish Synagogues. Come celebrate Shabbat! I am not observant, but I will try to make house accommodation,s to make your stay as easy and comfortable as possible. Marijuana is legal in Seattle. You are welcome to smoke outside on the deck. If there is not another guest arriving the day of your check-out, you can stay longer than 11 o'clock. Similarly, when you arrive, if there is not already a guest in the room, you can arrive earlier than 1 o'clock. Check with me within a couple of days of your trip, if you would like more flexible check-in or checkout times.
