Trapper Dan's Cabin is the original cabin here at Hope Alaska's Bear Creek Lodge. Completely built with horse-drawn wood, Trapper Dan's is a flash back into Alaska's history. There simply is no better way to experience Alaska than at Trapper Dan's original cabin. With two comfy beds, one queen and one double bed, you'll sink right into your own getaway from the noise and busy-ness of your regular life. Yes, most cell phones work here (sorry about that), but you'll quickly forget about that as you take in Bear Creek Pond out front and Bear Creek itself out back. A bald eagle nests each summer just outside of your cabin in an old Birch tree, and salmon spawn each fall in Bear Creek. Take a peddle boat or canoe for a spin on Bear Creek Pond. And then visit Dirty Skillet, the lodge's private restaurant open seasonally for dinner. Dirty Skillet serves authentic mining camp experiences, with hearty, heaping and home-cooked style foods. The entire 8 acres is open to our guests. Our property borders the borough land with hundreds more acres of amazing hiking and exploring, all ending at the mouth of the ocean, so it's impossible to lose your way. Our guests will also have free access to Bear Creek Pond, our private body of water, with peddle boat and canoe access. We provide life jackets for all guests. Be sure to bring your camera! This property is a photographer's dream with beautiful sites and quirky touches all throughout. Your cabin at Bear Creek Lodge is self-checkin, and guests are free to explore the entire grounds as they like. We are available for you to check into the property during restaurant hours. If you arrive after hours, please just give us a call to let us know you've arrived. And please let us know if there is anything we can do to make your stay more comfortable. Hope, Alaska is a magical town that visitors say is like a warp back in time 100 years to the early mining days. We have beautiful trails throughout Hope, a general store right next door, and great fishing and berry picking well into the summer. Hope, Alaska does not have any taxi cabs or ride share services. Anchorage, which is Alaska's largest city, is just 80-minutes away and has plenty of rental car options. WiFi is available in the lodge’s restaurant and deck right next door. This is a “dry cabin” with no indoor plumbing. The shared Wash Hut is nearby with toilets and hot showers. There are no laundry facilities.
