Welcome to paradise! Venado Valley Ranch Costa Rica is a 100 acre working horse and cattle ranch located near the world famous Venado Caves, Rio Celeste and Arenal Volcano. We offer nature-loving individuals, families and self-formed groups an authentic cultural immersion experience. Take part in cow milking, rainforest hiking, horseback riding and swimming in the jungle beneath a 20 foot waterfall. This destination has all of the amenities for a reasonable cost. The space Venado Valley Ranch is well-suited for adventurers who wish to experience rural life in Costa Rica. You will see things, such as our private waterfall and swimming hole...Few people have ever been to this place...You will neither see nor hear road noise, only the sounds of the monkeys, birds, livestock and the river. Everyone who visits has been taken aback by the stunning beauty of Venado Valley Ranch. The guest sleeping rooms are located on the upper level of the milking/equestrian areas below (see photos). Guest access Only one of the bunk rooms has air-conditioning. However, all four of the bunk rooms have ceiling fans. The bunk room veranda has a washing machine, sink and fridge as well as a balcony overlooking the milking/equestrian facility. A second balcony overlooks the forest and pastures. The kitchen area is NOT set up for complete meal prep so that is why our kitchen staff prepares meals. $18 for dinner $12 for breakfast. Children 6 and under half-price. We do not prepare a midday lunch. Meals are served in the gathering area at the home of the host, steps away from the bunk rooms. The spring-fed pool is also just steps away and has no pump & no chemicals. We have 6 horses, Paso Finos and Criollos. All horses are gentle and well-trained, suitable for young children as well as inexperienced and very experienced riders. Ronald, ranch manager, will be guiding and present at all times. At the conclusion of the ride you will rinse the horses and give them treats. You will then take part in making fresh juice using our sugar cane press. Duration: 2 hours. Cost: $45 per person. Jungle hike to the waterfall is guided activity, suitable for kids 7 or 8 yrs and up. Duration: 2-3 hours. Cost: $25 per person. Other things to note This is a working dairy ranch and my manager rounds up the cows for milking very early at about 5 AM every morning. This takes about 45 minutes. You might hear the milking machines below and maybe an occasional "moo"...Some guests have actually gone downstairs during this time to watch the milking and cheese-making process and they have enjoyed it. It is also important to note that the final 2km to the ranch is ROUGH GRAVEL ROAD so a 4x4 vehicle is recommended. The ranch is about a 45 minute drive from La Fortuna. Venado Valley Ranch is really a destination rather than a "stopping off" point. We strongly encourage our guests to stay 2 or 3 nights.
