Description

Enjoy an elevated camping experience on our family organic farm, Urkuwayku, Ilaló Volcano. We offer two tents (Cotopaxi and Pasochoa). Located about 50 meters from the tent, you have your own fully equipped kitchen, as well as your own bathroom with shower. For breakfast, we include fresh yogurt, granola, eggs, bread, juice, and coffee. You can prepare your own dinner. You are surrounded by more than 100 km of hiking or biking trails, as well as hot springs within a 20-minute walk. The space Granja Urkuwayku is a 5-hectare family-run organic farm. Through rainwater collection and the creative use of plants and animals, over 20 years, we have managed to transform a degraded landscape into an oasis that becomes greener with each passing year. We grow more than 50 crops, including European vegetables, Andean grains, roots and tubers, mushrooms, as well as fruits, herbs and ornamental plants. We also raise guinea pigs, chickens for egg production, and bees for honey. There is a soccer field, trampoline, and a swing for children. We are active in agroecological and alternative food movements and have close ties to pioneering farmers, chefs, and food activists. We'll be happy to share our experience and point you to other exciting experiences in the country. We offer a 'glamping' style platform tent with a queen size bed or 2.5 seats with space to install two additional twin mattresses). If more space is needed for additional people, we ask that you rent a tent with an additional platform (subject to availability). Guest access Guests have full access to the farm, including the Casa de Cangahua (with an outdoor porch, kitchen area and living area), as well as the surrounding volcano. The hot springs await just 3 km away (20 minutes walk) in the village of La Merced. If you prefer not to cook, we'll be happy to recommend some local restaurants, breweries, and cafes. Other things to note In addition to hiking to Ilaló, you can use Urkuwayku as your base camp to access the six nearby volcanoes (Pichincha, Pasachoa, Ruminahui, Sincholagua, Ilinizas del Norte and del Sur), as well as the Antisana, Cotopaxi and Cayambe glaciers, all less than two hours away. With advance notice, we can help you find a cycling, rafting, or high mountain service. Keep in mind that camping, even if it's 'glamping', implies a degree of exposure to the elements, and the climate in the Ecuadorian highlands (2,700 meters above sea level) can be extreme and variable. Visitors should arrive prepared for a variety of climates, including daily temperatures ranging from 7 to 20 degrees Celsius and periods of rain, especially during the afternoon. Also, keep in mind that the farm has various animals (chickens, guinea pigs, cats, dogs, bees, and other insects) and plants (vegetables, field crops, fruit trees, and other species) on the farm. If you have a particular allergy or other concern, please do not hesitate to contact us before booking. Airbnb's Terms of Service state that you must be at least 18 years old to open an account.
