The Chicken Coop- Secluded log cabin
1840's log home with cozy rooms. Three season porch. Babbling brook. Hooting owls and stars at night. Claw foot tub. Games and puzzles. Line dried sheets and towels. Cleaned with environmentally friendly cleansers only. Farm-fresh eggs, yogurt, muffins, fruit for breakfast. Full 18 hole Disc Golf course on property for guests to enjoy. Guests will be staying in a quiet cabin up a gravel lane. Surrounded by trees, birds and deer which can readily be seen from the porch - as well as the elusive resident free-range goat, Fudge. Although Baltimore, Lancaster and Gettysburg are all within an hours drive, the cabin feels remote and on a clear night, the Milky Way is visible. Guests are free to walk along the paths and old farm trails that wind through the property. The out-buildings are old so we ask that guests refrain from exploring them. We love greeting our guests and giving a welcoming tour and answering any questions that arise about the Chicken Coop and the surrounding areas. We love to have guests and welcome as much interaction as our guests would like. We live about 1/4 mile up the hill so the cabin is private but close enough if questions come up or if forgotten items are needed to be delivered! We are close to Baltimore, Lancaster ( where the Amish live), and Gettysburg. The Amish have recently bought neighboring farms so Amish buggies now pass our home on a regular basis. Glen Rock boasts Simply Local, a small, lovely shop which sells local artisan's ware as well as lunch and homemade ice-cream. The Glen Rock Mill Inn is an award winning, upscale restaurant that is open Wednesday-Sunday. The North Central Rail Trail is 1.5 miles away. It is a wonderful place for biking and walking. (We have bikes, including a tandem, to share. There is an 18 hole disc golf course on the property. (Walnut Holler on U-disc) We recommend our guests use a car to visit. There is parking close to the cabin. The Chicken Coop serves well as a starting point to bike the NCR and YCH trails (41 miles of mostly shaded, mostly rural terrain) which links Baltimore County to York. We are located just 1.5 miles from the trail at mile 6 of the YCH trail. The cabin is just 1.5 miles from the bike and hike trail and we now offer a tandem bike for our guests to use. The gentle roll of our country road is easy to maneuver and then the trail is flat so the biking with the tandem is quite doable and enjoyable.
