Waterfront Cottage on Kennebec with views and dock
This cottage sits on the water at the mouth of the Kennebec River with amazing views of Fort Popham. Half-tide dock requires carrying kayak a few feet at low tide (boots provided). Kayaks from seaspraykayaking can be delivered to cottage. If you see a window you want to rent send a message. This cottage is clean, charming and has an authentic quality that fits well with the natural beauty that surrounds it. It is well maintained by careful and conscientious owners who treat it like a home, not a franchise motel. There is a deck with an awning and furniture for lounging while taking in the spectacular view. Action on the river is always fun to watch, whether its lobster boats or kayakers. You can hear distant voices from across the river at Popham Beach. There is also a garden and back yard area with shady trees. My renters agree its a very magical place. In most cases I reply to texts within the hour. As I live in Boston, I cannot respond personally to unexpected issues. Georgetown is a pleasantly secluded island (connected by a bridge) with many public lands and nature preserves for hikes and exploring. There is a short drive to the nearest country store, and a few minutes more to two restaurants. Beyond that, it's 20 minutes to Bath, where you can find anything you need. Our parking spot is at the end of Keen Way, at the foot of the hill, ON THE LEFT. The other two spots belong to my neighbors. The rental guarantees you space for one midsize vehicle. A second can be squeezed in shot-gun style directly behind (please pack tight so neighbors can use their spaces too). You can usually find space for a third vehicle in a small public lot at the top of Keen Way at the corner of Bay Point Road based on availability. Please do not park three vehicles in the drive. • Slight incline from parking lot can present issues for those with special mobility needs (see picture). • Kayaking up the Narrows toward Todd Bay is not difficult, but you want to be careful going out towards the ocean, as currents on the Kennebec can be tricky. I'll explain verbally what need to know if you plan on kayaking. It all depends on weather, wind speed and current. Just watch those things and you're fine. • This is a cottage in the woods in Maine. The property is regularly baited for mice and ants, and is well safeguarded against squirrels and other critters. We have yet to have any problems with unwelcome guests in our cottage. • Like most cottages in this area, water is drawn from a rainwater system, not from a public source. Guests are asked to exercise restraint in the use of water. • An inflatable raft for visits to the sand bar can be made available for able-bodied and experienced guests. If you think this is for you, let's talk. • One bathroom towel and hand towel per guest, and one set of linens are provided. • We have had many happy renters visit us from May through October, but please be aware of seasonal temperatures. We supply electric blankets and heaters for late autumn rentals, but slippers, house coats and an extra sweater wouldn't be a bad idea. • There is no laundry or TV, but there is a laundromat in Bath, and internet allows streaming of online content.
