Moroccan House at Lake Atitlán

Casa Marroquí (formerly known as Muzzen Muzzef) was designed by our parents after their trip to Morocco in the 70s. Its arches, domes and stained glass details are some of the enchanting architectural features they so admired and wanted to bring home with them. This unique property meets the shores of Lake Atitlán, which is one of the most wonderful lakes in the world. Its cobalt blue waters and the three volcanoes surrounding it make the view from the house a breathtaking experience. The space Our family has been creating this space with care and joy, and we’re thrilled to share it with the world. Offering comfort, tranquility, privacy, and incredible views, this home is embraced by lush nature, and its Moroccan-inspired decor includes locally sourced textiles, crafts, and bamboo furniture. To help you settle in, our amazing property administrators will be there to welcome you, assist with your luggage if needed and remove trash daily (all included in the price). If you wish for help to wash dishes and make beds, it can be done for a fee. Once you arrive and make your way down the many steps from the parking area (there is also a lift available), you’ll see the entrance to The Moroccan Loft, a truly magical space. This newly renovated, studio-style bedroom floor plan includes a King bed, a King day bed, a wood-burning fireplace, and a balcony. The spacious His & Hers bathroom features a large shower and a bamboo closet. Step outside onto the beautiful terrace and you’ll find a pair of sunbathing beds, an outdoor shower for warm days, a fully equipped kitchenette with a small dining table, and cozy seating to enjoy the stunning views. Continue down the steps leading to the first level and discover the superb exterior living area, surrounded by an exquisite natural scenery. From here, you can enter the house through the large, recently renovated, fully equipped kitchen and dining area. As you explore the rest of the house, you’ll come across an open sleeping area with a Queen bed and a full bathroom next to it (shown as "Bedroom 3" on the platform, but only has bamboo privacy screens for now). Moving further inside, you’ll see the main interior living area beneath a large blue dome—perfect for movie night or game night with family and friends. Beyond this space is a large bedroom featuring a Queen bed, two double beds, and its own full bathroom. Outside, a charming corridor invites you to take in the outdoors under some shade, where you’ll also find the BBQ grill. A wonderful deck awaits nearby for enjoying your favorite morning beverage or a nice meal. For rest and relaxation, there are sunbathing beds and a secluded hammock area. As you make your way toward the lake, you’ll arrive at our newly renovated private pier—perfect for taking in the natural beauty or going for a swim. We invite you to come enjoy the outdoor spaces, relax by the lake, take a siesta in a hammock, have a cook-out with loved ones, or simply soak in the peaceful atmosphere. The magic of the lake is everywhere! Book your stay and experience it for yourself. Guest access The entire property includes the garden, pier, and parking area. You will have access to two parking spots with your booking (street parking also available). Other things to note -Our property contains two listings; this listing, "Casa Marroquí at Lake Atitlán" is located right below our other listing "Cabin at Casa Marroquí (Lake Atitlán)". This cozy little home away from home gives you the sensation of being on top of the world from the comfort of your balcony. Feel free to check it out for future stays at the lake. -The only shared space between our listings is the parking garage. Guests from Casa Marroquí reserve the right to keep outdoor spaces of the property private during their stay. That being said, our on-site property administrator might ask your permission for the guests of The Cabin to access the pier for transportation purposes. Those guests are aware that this is not a given, so please don’t feel obligated to accept if this is something you're uncomfortable with. You can also let us know in advance about your specific preferences if you wish. Though this will likely not happen, we want to give you a heads up just in case. -Because of where this property is located, it is possible that you'll encounter some bugs. That being said, there shouldn't be any issues with this inside. Please let our property administrator know if you have any issues. We provide bug repellent to help make your stay as comfortable as possible. -Please be sure to read the House Rules before you book, specially if you plan to bring pets (bottom of page > Things to Know > House Rules > Additional Rules). *Lake safety: Xocomil. Daily weather phenomenon, which can cause strong currents and choppy waters. It lasts for about an hour or two, and can occur around noon or 5 p.m. Keep this in mind if you plan to go in the lake.
