Description

Open a new bottle of Kentucky bourbon, turn on the market lights playfully strung in the tree, and socialize to the sounds of the water fountain. This historic Bluegrass Trust home was built in 1848 and features a unique stained-glass front door. Please note: We are pet-friendly with a $40 pet fee. Our home is a beautiful, historic Bluegrass Trust home built in 1848 by James C. Butler, a business partner to architect John McMurtry who built many antebellum homes in Lexington. The James C. Butler House is more than just a house. It’s an interactive experience with a piece of Kentucky history. During your stay you will see original hardwood floors and finishes gracefully combined with modern convenience and furnishings. It is the perfect blend of modern and original. This 170-year-old home will take you back in time while providing a comfortable resting place for your visit to Lexington. After your day of sightseeing, traveling the bourbon trail, or watching the thoroughbreds thunder down the stretch at the world-class Keeneland racetrack, come home to the James C. Butler house and sit in our private backyard oasis. Open your new bottle of Kentucky bourbon, turn on the market lights playfully strung in the tree, and relax to the sounds of our water fountain. Cook at home in our fully-equipped kitchen or take a short stroll to any number of Lexington’s delicious, locally-owned restaurants, bars, and attractions. We are happy to provide recommendations! There are a total of four (4) parking spaces, two (2) inside the garage for small cars/SUVs and two (2) behind those cars outside the garage. No extra-large SUVs or similar vehicles will fit behind the house as the driveway's turn radius is tight. The driveway is shared with the house to the right of us so please do not block the driveway or their parking space which is located behind their house. Please do not drive or park in the neighbor’s grass. There are additional free parking spaces located in front of the house on the street. You probably won't see us at all but a host is available via phone call, text or email throughout your stay. We are happy to help you find fun things to do and great places to eat! Walk to Rupp Arena, plus the Jefferson Street and Manchester Street food and music districts. Watch basketball games and concerts, and visit the Opera House. Go on an outing to Keeneland and tour the distilleries of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. Keep in mind that our home is centrally located in downtown Lexington and comes with all the lights and sounds of urban living. We provide eye masks, ear plugs, and noise machines for your convenience. While there is a lot within walking distance from our home, but having a vehicle is recommended if you're going anywhere outside of the downtown area. You could easily take an Uber or Lyft anywhere in town as the house is located only a 15 minutes car ride from most of the city. We are 6 miles from the Bluegrass Airport (LEX) and Keeneland race course, 8 miles from the Kentucky Horse Park, 1 mile from the University of Kentucky or Transylvania University, and 0.5 miles to Rupp Arena or the Opera House. If you need total darkness to sleep, then it's recommended you bring something to cover your eyes. The house has many windows throughout the house and most of them have shutters on only the lower half. Between the sunlight and the city lights at night, it is well-lit inside. As the home is located in the heart of downtown Lexington and near hospitals, please expect to hear standard city noises such as traffic and sirens.
