In an 1800 Victorian home w/brilliant pine floors--welcome to our bright spacious newly renovated 1 Bedroom (3rd flr) apt. Complete kitchen and everything you need to enjoy your time in Jim Thorpe. Centrally located to Opera House/downtown Jim Thorpe--wonderful restaurants and museums. In addition, brand new comfortable sleeper sofa in living room so the home can accommodate up to 4 guests. Note--the bathroom is only accessible thru master BR. The space I am Laura—a ‘youngish’ woman who has recently purchased this 3-unit apartment building near the center of where everything happens in Jim Thorpe. As I have lived and traveled in Europe--especially Amsterdam—I immediately fell in love with the historic buildings and, of course, the extraordinary bike riding trails that Jim Thorpe offers to visitors. As well, because I have lived in NYC/Manhattan for over -30 years, I view Jim Thorpe as a bit like the lofts of Soho as well as a much needed place to decompress, unwind and relax from the hectic (yet exciting) life of the big city. Both of our available AirBnB apartments have been mindfully, carefully and thoughtfully furnished as we view both of them as our homes as well. For example—the kitchen has all the amenities needed for most wannabe chefs. We have nice pots, pans, cutting knives, food processor, crock pot as well as many spices and condiments. Our linens and towels are the highest quality to assure a feeling of luxury. The bathroom is newly renovated with a wonderful tub and lots of hot water. Recently, we have focused on our backyard and created a hand designed brick paved 2-terrace oasis of relaxation, outdoor dining plus an extraordinary gas barbeque, attached charcoal bar-b-que (we have some cherry-wood smoker chips and box) plus a warming plate. We love having our morning coffee outside, relaxing to read a book and then grill some organic steaks from a local butcher and some yummy vegetables from the farmer’s market. On rainy days—we enjoy binge watching on our HD TV and recently finished Game of Thrones. We offer HBO-GO, Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu. Internet and wifi options are limited in Jim Thorpe but we have opted to purchase wifi-extenders through-out the building so the majority of the time we can use our technology whether in the basement or in the backyard. We love bike riding and going to the Mauch-Chunk Lake so much that we have not yet explored all the amazing museums and art galleries—the majority which are within walking distance. Our favorite local activity is the incredible music and acoustics offered at the Jim Thorpe Opera House which is just diagonal from our building. The music they offer are a wide variety and everything we have gone to has been great. Also, nearby is Penn’s Peak where we have a membership. They offer a larger music venue with terrific headlining bands. ***Please Note: We now have an off-site locked garage for bikes AND you must let us know you would like to reserve it. Bicycles are NOT permitted inside the building, hallways etc. Any violations will have a zero tolerance.*** Plus we splurged and purchased a Samsung washer and dryer which you are welcome to use--Please do NOT plan to bring your load(s) of outside laundry to do. Of course, we appreciate our guests being mindful about the use of water for the machine and use the appropriate washer setting. Guest access Guests will have their own private apartment which requires walking up 2 flights of stairs. While we have 2 other apartments--we often do not even hear or see them. However, the floors can be creaky--so we do ask the 3rd floor guest to be aware of quiet hours and their foot noise in the hallways and apartment between 10pm and 8am. It has never bothered me...and I like to mention it as some folks wear heavy boots etc. In Jim Thorpe most folks are outside enjoying the nature, museums or dining establishments. We use a key fob entry system with a lock box....so if you want, you have the flexibility to keep the keys in the lock box as you come and go so if you are traveling with a group--you have the flexibility to do things separately and then access the building and apartment via the lock box. The stairs, halls and basement are shared common area's. Your apartment is a private smoke-free environment. The building is also smoke free--if you see anyone smoking in the building please notify me. Other things to note PETS: Dogs MAY be accepted. It is NOT guaranteed. Pet Fee ($50) is required. DO NOT book instantly if you intend to bring your dog. Message us first to see if we will accept your stay. Dogs are not allowed on the furniture and may be subject to additional cleaning fees. Parking near the house is no longer permitted… It is local permit parking only. Please watch for signs carefully because the fine is now $50. The lot for your assigned parking spot is a 1-minute drive from the house—Then walk only -5 to 10 minutes past the historic jail (open to ‘ghost’ tours-check schedule) to our home/your new home. The base rate is for double occupancy/2 people. Additional fees apply for additional guests after two people.
