Built into a green rock it juts into the ocean with spectacular views of coral reefs below and Caribbean Islands from decks and pool. Our private, gated property has its own entrance to La Chata beach. Swim and snorkel from your "front yard" or explore morning tide pools. Fully refurbished, the villa offers ample space for entertaining indoors and out, and comfort for up 8 guests. The space Las Piedras encompasses all of the splendor of Vieques in an unparalleled property. You simply cannot get any closer to the ocean without being in the water! With breathtaking, unobstructed ocean views from almost every vantage point, comfortable, modern entertaining spaces, a cliffside pool, 4+ designated bedrooms with 3 full and 1 half baths, gated parking and its own entrance to one of the best beaches on the island, there is no better location for your Vieques' vacation. "Playa La Chata" is something of an insider's secret: great for swimming, snorkeling and strolling for shells and coral. It's a nesting site for sea turtles who hatch in mid February and a pass-by for migrating humpback whales in November. The coral reefs in front of the house not only offer excellent snorkeling, but serve to keep fishing and loud party boats far away as well. We have great wifi and a wireless printer to make working from paradise a breeze. "Las Piedras" (Spanish for "The Rocks") is an architectural gem designed in the 1980's by a prominent magazine publisher and her artist husband as a retreat from the bustle of city life. Las Piedras' clever design propels it seemingly into the ocean but is cleverly anchored above and into La Chata's jade green rocks- a stylistic and practical feature that serves to "hurricane proof" the house. There are 4 fully designated bedrooms and one "extra" room without air conditioning on the top floor. It has a window and a wall fan with an adjoining bathroom but is the only closed room without a direct ocean view. Note to summer renters: Only the 4 main bedrooms are air-conditioned. The rest of the house is cooled by ceiling fans and the ocean's powerful trade winds. Guest access All of the house and property ( pool, outdoor grill, etc. ) are available for guest use. Other things to note Being surrounded by the ocean exposes us to more than our share of salt air, so anything metal rusts at an alarmingly fast rate. We stay on top of this as best we can, but ask for your understanding that some elements of nature are beyond our control :-) Due to hazards such as the open rail decks and an ungated pool, all guests under the age of ten NEED to be pre-approved. Under "beach essentials" Airbnb automatically adds "snorkeling gear" if you are providing beach towels, coolers, chairs, etc. There may be some snorkeling gear at the house, but is not reliable. We strongly suggest bringing your own sets or purchasing ones locally if you intend to snorkel (which you totally should!)
