Chebeague Island, ME-Pullman Suite, Sleeps 5
Description
My husband and I live in this old sea captain's house on 2 acres at the water's edge. The rooms included in this listing, on the second floor of our 1873 home built on an island accessible only by ferry boat, for Captain David Nelson Hill, are the Captain's Room for 2, Cozy Room for 2, and Tuck-away which sleeps 1. Please thoroughly read our Rooms for 8 listing to ensure you have a full understanding of guest accommodations, including access to our kitchen and public rooms. The space Our home, one of the Stone Sloop Captains' houses built in the mid-1800s, is situated on a lovely property in walking distance of the CTC Ferry, Stone Wharf, beach, museum, library, restaurants, and store. Our property is smoke-free, inside and out, but feel free to bring along your favorite beverage to sip while you sit on the back bank and watch the birds and boats or just relax in the hammock. There are flowers, trees, birds, and plenty of outside seating. The Pullman Suite includes the Captain's Room, and two rooms adjacent to the Captain's Room. The three rooms, which sleep 5 in two full beds and one single, are "Pullman" style, similar to a train in that you must walk through one room to get to the next. The Captain's Pullman suite is perfect for a family or close friends. The first two rooms have full-size beds. The third room has a twin size bed and access to the secondary staircase to the first floor. All beds in our home have memory foam toppers, plush mattress pads and at least 400 count cotton sheets. The rooms, on the original second floor, share a bathroom centrally located at the top of the main staircase. The outside shower (available April - October), private and constructed with blue stone, and a first floor lav are also available to guests to help streamline readying for scheduled events. Guest access Guests have use of our public rooms and grounds, including the "back bank", which is a great place for sitting and sipping while watching egrets, herons, belted king fishers and the MV Islander's comings and goings. Breakfast can be enjoyed in the kitchen, dining room or backyard, depending on guest preference and weather. Dietary preferences and requirements are taken into consideration when I'm informed in advance. Guests may use our kitchen, bring food to prepare, order a food delivery from Whole Foods in advance of arrival, pick up prepared foods or groceries on Island, or order fresh caught lobster directly from a local lobsterman. If you'd like, accomplished professional chefs and gourmet cooks, who make their home on the Island, may be available to cook up a special meal for you. Breakfast foods and supplies are available, let me know how I can help you manage lunch and dinners. Groceries can be purchased from Doughty's Island Market, open all year and just a short walk down the South Road, but you'll find frozen meats, not fresh. Doughty's is also a great place to pick up a sandwich, a slice of pizza, a cup of coffee and if you're lucky - Julie's award winning chili, beef stew, or haddock chowder. It's closed on Wednesdays except during the busy summer season. Wi-Fi is available throughout the house. Our formal living room doubles as our media room with a 10' screen and surround sound. There are water color paints and art paper, board games, chess and playing cards, as well as many books for our guests enjoyment. Relax in the sunroom, put your feet up and take a nap. During your stay Our home is spacious and provides opportunity for quiet privacy as well as camaraderie. I follow my guests' lead. I can move about the house quietly, without intruding or comfortably interact with guests. Most guests sit back, relax and make themselves at home. I'm always available to answer questions or tend to concerns. Other things to note Chebeague Island is all about community, it is not necessarily a tourist destination. If you're looking for quaint shops and cafes, check out the Old Port in Portland before or after you visit Chebeague. Many artists and craftsmen make their home on Chebeague Island. I will be happy to connect you with a local artist if you are interested in viewing paintings, sculptures, wooden bowls and vases, wooden carvings and signs, hand made toys, original jewelry, and more. Another helpful link is our island's website at www chebeague org ... it will give you a feel for the community and access to links to island organizations, businesses and events.
