See some Mallard Ducks resting in the pond ~ early summer around the Middle of May - End of July watch the hummingbirds, sparrows and some bats flying around along with occasional... Deer.. Moose...Black bear....Brown bear....Mountain goats...Coyotes...Links...Porcupines..Spruce hens.. Ermines...Hawks...Rabbits..Shrews...Mosquitoes... In the midst of summer listen to Owls hooting at dusk and into early night. Stellar Blue Jays, Camp robbers ( the bird) and Magpies pass on by. In the fall and right into winter listening to all the sounds of the Eagles and watching them fly right in front or overhead of you is pretty awesome! 100's of Eagles following the salmon up the Lowe river valley perched amongst the trees. Go catch fish on your boat or charter a boat from one of many operators Valdez has to offer. The fish hatchery is a great place to learn the history and how the salmon leave and return to these waters. While there it's possible to see Sea Lions, Harbor seals, Otters, Puffins, Eagles, Bears, Salmon and occasionally a Whale. Go visit the old town site and the Museums. Get out side & Play! Furry Friends & Animal lovers, I like them too, however it is very hard to clean and remove the animal fur and smell from a home. I don't mind dogs if you can be ok with them staying out side. If you really need them in the home we will need to discuse additional cleaning fees. Message me for details. Relax. Be Adventurist. Read a book. Enjoy your stay. Valdez! III The Shabbin is yours to enjoy. You are welcome to use the porch, collapsing chair to take to the yard or fire pit. The table / chairs and the gas grill out side. Please respect the rest of the property and stay out of other structures. Absolutely NO Hunting!! NO discharging of fire arms and NO shooting off fireworks. Valdez has a leash law for animals. Yes there is an animal control officer that patrols the area. He will try to catch a loose animal and take it to jail. I will be available to answer questions by Airbnb text or phone. Thompson’s Pass is just about a 15 minute drive. A quick 3 mile drive up the road is Keystone canyon which has spectacular water falls that dump into the Lowe river as seen in the 2002 movie staring Al Pacino, Robin Williams & Hilary Swank" Insomnia ". The water falls offer amazing world class Ice climbing during the winter months. There is a nice trail head of the Historic Pack trail " Goat Trail " for good hiking and a higher view of Bridal Veil falls. Then just two bends down the road are a few bolted rock climbing routs and the old train tunnels. Beyond Keystone canyon rests the spectacular Thompson's Pass. A little walk from the Shabbin is a park with a Playground for kids. There is a basketball and tennis court which are aged. A bit further you can access the Lowe river bed and walk looking for neat rocks. There are no commercial stores or gas stations. You will need to go to town for those amenities. Town is 13 miles to the west. The Shabbin is located 13 miles from the Town of Valdez. You can hope on The Alaska State Ferry it arrives in Valdez almost daily from April to August. Flying into the Valdez airport and rent a car, truck or van. Catch a taxi service that can bring you out "yellow cab". However it is recommend having your own transportation. During Winter months four wheel drive is needed to access the drive way. If you are on a Motor cycle or bike trip the Shabbin is a great stopping point. Get outside. Play & stay @ the Shabbin... Get Out Side and Play!
