This 4 bedroom, 2 bath cottage is located on the South Shore in desirable Upper Kingsburg. Approximately 1.5 hours from the Halifax airport, the cottage is a short drive from Lunenburg and Mahone Bay and offers sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean and Romkey pond. Well-equipped, yet modest, the home has four bedrooms and is a short walk to Hirtle's Beach and Gaff Point. This is a place to come to relax and unwind in a spectacular setting. Set on a hill overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and Romkey pond, the cottage is the perfect home-base for exploring the South Shore, or for just putting your feet up and relaxing in an adirondack chair with nothing but a good book and the view. The covered porch is a lovely place to enjoy a morning coffee or a late afternoon snack. Inside there are also beautiful views from most vantage points and you can open your bedroom window and hear the waves at night. There is nothing fancy about the cottage, but we hope you feel as comfortable and at home here as we do. Downstairs there are two living room / seating areas, a separate den, a dining area and a kitchen. There are two tables that can be put together to seat 8 guests. The primary table seats 4-6. The kitchen is simple, yet well-stocked and guests are welcome to use anything on hand. There is a full-size fridge, oven/stove, microwave and plenty of dishes, pots, pans and cooking utensils. Please note there is no dishwasher. There is also a 1/2 bath on the main floor. The bedrooms are on the second floor. Please be mindful with young children or elderly guests as the stairs are steep. Upstairs welcomes you with a small landing area with well-stocked bookshelf and a sweet window overlooking the fields and ocean. There are 4 bedrooms, two with queens and two with double / full. Please note that one of the bedrooms is smaller than the other and the size, combined with the sloping roof make it best suited for children or single travelers. There is a full bathroom upstairs and both baths are updated. Sand can be problematic for the plumbing system and we do ask that guests rinse off in the outdoor shower prior to using the shower inside. Guests are provided with a code prior to arrival for keyless entry. We welcome our guests to use anything they find, we just ask that cars and beach bags are checked for any borrowed items before departure. There is an assortment of books and games, beach chairs and towels. There are two small outbuildings on the property - the gray / white building next to the house and a small gray studio cottage across the lane. While guests are welcome to store belongings in the gray / white building next to the house, we ask that garbage and recycling note be stored here due to animals. The gray studio cottage is a separate rental that can be rented either as a stand-alone, or in conjunction with the main cottage for larger families or friends traveling together. Please inquire about rates if interested in renting both properties. We are not on-site, however we are available via email, phone or text before and during your stay to answer any questions. Hirtle's Beach, a stunning 2-mile stretch of sand hugged by two rugged peninsulas, is a short walk or drive. If not familiar with the Maritimes, be forewarned that the water is cold. Really cold. But, that doesn't stop beachgoers and surfers from going in! There are also two ponds (Romkey Pond and Hirtles Pond) that are just the other side of the beach with warmer and calmer waters. At the far end of Hirtle's is Gaff Point, a beautiful 7 kilometre looped trail of rugged coastline, cliffs, and forest. One of our favorite things to do is pack a picnic and walk out to the point for a leisurely 1/2 day of hiking and relaxing. If you sit for long enough you may even see rabbits, seals, porpoises or even whales depending on the season. Lunenburg and Mahone Bay are a short drive and Halifax is an easy day trip. There are bike and kayak rentals available in town and we will provide you with a comprehensive welcome letter to help you navigate your trip prior to your stay. You will need a car to get to Upper Kingsburg. There is no public transportation. Please park on the grass between the house and the gray / white outbuilding. Please do not park on the grass in front of the red barn. Guests often tell us that they spend a lot of time reading, or just sitting and staring out at the Atlantic when they stay at the cottage. We agree, but we do also offer wifi and there are two smart TVs to stream your favorite shows (one in the living room and one in the den).
