This is a neighborhood of mid-century modern homes built in 1951 in a quiet suburb of DC. My house is a one-level with lots of natural light from large windows. The AirBnB room is part of an addition done in 2001. The bedroom is large and comfortable. Shared bathroom. There are a few host belongings tucked into the corner and behind a curtained closet in the room. Inova Fairfax Hospital is only .8 miles away, so the house is perfect for travel nurses. The house is overseen by Alice the cat, so it's only recommended for pet lovers! It's also a Tuesday pickup location for a Community Supported Agriculture, so you might go home with some farm-fresh organic vegetables in your suitcase. The bedroom is large and airy, with tall ceilings and lots of windows (covered by curtains for privacy when you want it). Other rooms are also light and airy with many windows. You are welcome to use the kitchen, and there is a separate refrigerator in your bedroom. TV in the living room does not have cable, but does have HBO, Netflix and Amazon Prime. There is a nice deck out back where you can enjoy your morning coffee or evening beverage, and a patio out front where you can sit under the dogwood tree. I work from home, so I am around to answer questions and make suggestions for places to visit. Part of the fun of hosting is to meet new people, so if you are up for conversation, I am too, but if you prefer your peace and quiet, I can respect that as well. Alice, the cat, will want to be petted. Charlie, the dog, will want to meet you at first, and he will let you know if there is anyone at the door, or a stray fox wandering by. Our neighborhood of midcentury modern homes is called Holmes Run Acres, and it's on the list of historic neighborhoods for its architecture. It's lovely to stroll around the neighborhood and look at what everyone has done with their original homes. Most still reflect the mid-century aesthetic. The neighborhood is full of mature trees and lots of wildlife; we frequently have bunnies and foxes visiting. Deer too, but I've never had one in my yard. There are lovely nature walks to take very close by. Most people drive, but there is a public bus stop a block away that can take you up to the hospital or to the metro. Plenty of on-street parking. The house is just minutes from Fairfax Hospital, so the location would be perfect if you are here to work at or visit the hospital. A few blocks farther up Gallows Road is the Mosaic District, an area of shops and diverse restaurants. Continuing on, it's just a few minutes' drive to the metro, which is an easy way to get to downtown DC for world-class museums, excellent restaurants, monuments and, of course, the U.S. government buildings.
