Description
Built by Alaskan gold miners in the early 1900’s, the Bear Cub Cabin was reconstructed in 2016. Nestled in the beautiful Chugach National Forest with towering Alaskan mountains right at your doorstep. This historical cabin is clean, cozy and perfect for a couple looking to experience the many activities of the Kenai Peninsula. Perfectly located close to the beautiful seaside city of Seward, world-class king salmon fishing in Cooper Landing, and the charming town of Moose Pass. The space Welcome to the historic Wolf Cabin reconstructed from a piece of Alaska’s gold mining history. The cabin was built by miners during the first gold rush in Alaska in 1906 at Lower Summit Lake. It was moved to Moose Pass in the 1940s and acted as a residence and post office for the Wolf family until it was abandoned in the 1970s. Our family bought the property and has moved the cabin to its new location. The cabin was disassembled and reconstructed in 2016. It is completely refinished inside with the modern conveniences of a bath and kitchen. It is a small 12x18 cabin, but well equipped. The stairs to the loft are very steep; it will be necessary for guests to have the ability to climb a ladder to the queen-sized bed in the loft. Due to the steepness of the stairs, this cabin is not suitable for small children, the elderly, or handicapped people. Located along the scenic Seward Highway, this cabin offers convenient access to some of the Kenai Peninsula’s most breathtaking sights. While occasional highway noise can be heard from outside, the cabin’s well-insulated interior provides a peaceful and quiet escape. The Bear Cub Cabin shares the property with one other rental, the Spruce Bear Cabin, as well as the home of your hosts, Marques and Teal. A privacy fence separates the two cabins, ensuring that guests at Bear Cub enjoy their own quiet corner of the property. On one side, the land borders the stunning Chugach National Forest, offering easy access to nature and a truly wild Alaskan backdrop. On the other side, the property borders a neighboring junkyard. Thankfully, in the summer months, a thick stand of trees provides a natural screen that blocks most of the view. However, during spring and fall, when the leaves have dropped, some views of rundown vehicles may be visible through the trees. While there’s plenty of distance and separation between the cabin and the neighboring lot, we believe in being transparent so you can make the best choice for your stay. If you're looking for a private, comfortable cabin with easy access to adventure—and don’t mind a bit of character in the surroundings—the Bear Cub Cabin is a charming and convenient home base for exploring Alaska’s wild beauty. Guest access Guests at The Bear Cub Cabin have full access to the 10-acre private property to roam, relax, and enjoy the natural surroundings. The cabin is located near the home of your hosts, Marques and Teal, as well as their other rental, The Spruce Bear Cabin. While the cabins share the land, a privacy fence ensures a peaceful and secluded experience for Bear Cub guests. You're welcome to explore the property during your stay. One great way to stretch your legs is by taking a walk along an old military trail that follows the power line south to the next subdivision—about a mile away. This trail begins near the main driveway: simply head back toward the entrance, turn left on the driveway, and look for a path on your right. Please note that the Forest Service recently cleared many of the surrounding trees as part of a fire prevention effort, so while the trail is still accessible, the forest landscape has changed and now feels much more open than before. For a refreshing adventure nearby, don’t miss the Moose Pass swimming hole—a local favorite! To get there, walk back out to the Seward Highway, cross the street, and turn left toward Seward. The swimming hole is just down the second driveway on the opposite side of the road. It features a floating dock, a rope swing, and crystal-clear mountain-fed water—perfect for cooling off on a summer day. It's a hit with kids and a beloved spot for locals.
