A hidden gem, set above sparkling springs, the Power House is a small cabin on its own corner of the property. With a queen-sized bed, a cast-iron wood stove, a kitchenette and bathroom, this cabin is perfect for a romantic getaway for two, a writer's retreat or bolthole for avid fishermen. The Power House is a part of the House on Metolius, a private resort and nature reserve on the Metolius River. The two-hundred acres of private land are bisected by the river, and are surrounded by millions of acres of national forest. House on Metolius has served as a private estate and retreat for over a hundred years. Guests are free to roam around the 200-acres of the House on Metolius property, one of the few private properties along the Metolius river. The Camp Sherman Store is a short drive (5-10m) away and has most necessities. They also make great sandwiches and a good cup of coffee. The Power House is in Camp Sherman, Oregon, and is about 1h from Redmond Airport and 2h 45m from Portland. We will get in touch with the exact directions, particularly for the last quarter mile or so, as well as the gate code. Mobile phone coverage in the area is limited, so please make sure you have the directions printed (or saved on your phone) before you come. Due to the potential for conflict with wildlife, we do not allow pets on the property at House on Metolius. Thank you for your understanding. Internet and Cell Coverage The Metolius Basin has very limited cell coverage—you’ll typically get one or two bars, and occasionally no coverage at all. Text messages generally work with only one bar, so that is a good option. You can also use WiFi calling when you are on the property. The Internet connection here at House on Metolius is also somewhat limited, certainly compared to the average 80-90 Mbps connection one sees many places. We are limited (by the telephone company) to a single T1 line for the entire property—that is 1.5 Mbps up/down. The WiFi coverage is good around all of the cabins and at the Main House, so if you are having trouble, the problem probably isn’t the WiFi, but rather simply that Internet connection isn’t that fast, and there may be other guests using it at the same time. Perhaps surprisingly, this is often good enough for many applications—even video calls, screen sharing, etc. It isn’t great for streaming movies (or downloading large updates), so if you may want to download those in advance and bring them with you. On the whole, our guests usually find that there are a lot of ‘offline’ things to enjoy here at House on Metolius—this is definitely a nice place to curl up with a good book or simply enjoy the view.
