CABIN IN THE WOODS WITH PRIVATE BATHROOM AND SHOWER! We are located at mile 26.8 on the McCarthy road, between Chitina and McCarthy. You have a private bathroom with HOT and cold running water in a private shower (Private hot showers are rare in most rental cabins). The cabin has a breathtaking view from the spacious front deck. It overlooks the Chokosna river, and has amazing views of the wrangell mountains and thousands of acres of pristine wilderness. The space We are the perfect place to stay for people traveling to tour the town of McCarthy. The cabin is tastefully decorated in an Alaskan fishing theme. The comfortable deck is only 25 paces from the banks of the Chokosna river. The sound of the river will lull you to sleep each night. It is surrounded by wilderness forest and is on the edge of the Wrangell St. Elias park. We are right off of the road and easy to get to. Your cabin does not include a kitchen or food storage (Bears love unoccupied cabins with food storage), so be prepared to visit the excellent restaurants down the road in the historic, quaint mining town of McCarthy or Chitina. You may bring a cooler with food and drinks and bring your own food with you, just be sure to be mindful of scraps and smells that could attract bears. Be sure to keep all food items secured inside of the cabin during your stay. The smart bears in Alaska know what a cooler is! So any coolers left out could be ransacked! Caned food is like a metal chew-toy with a "surprise juicy center" for bears. The cabin is positioned on the banks of the Chokosna river. During fish runs, the Salmon can be observed as they pack the water to spawn upstream. You may also take advantage of Alaska's gold and copper mining history and gold pan on the banks of our river. Perhaps you will be lucky enough to come away from you visit with a nugget to remember your stay in the Alaskan wilderness. Wildlife abounds on the property! Each morning, while enjoying a cup of coffee, sit in the comfortable deck chairs and watch. Many animals of numerous types can be seen, as they wake each morning at sunrise, to begin foraging. A family of river otters lives and plays on the property. If you are patient and quietly sit on the banks of the river, you might see them scampering and playing along the banks. The property is on a moose and bear corridor where animals frequently cross the river and saunter through the property. The animals are unaccustomed to people, so most do not fear people which can allow very close interaction. Take breathtaking photos of the wildlife from the deck of your private cabin, and even from the windows of the cabin. The cabin comes with a romantic propane heater that looks just like a woodstove with a romantic fire licking against the glass. It will keep you and your sweety warm through the crisp evenings. You will snuggle into a comfortable queen bed on those romantic nights. You will enjoy the tranquil and serene surroundings as you unwind from your time traveling. You will be able to listen to the sounds of the wilderness; owl hoots, bird calls and sometimes even moose bugle! The burble of the river is a peaceful constant in the background. Guest access You will have access to your own cabin with a full bathroom. If you wish to experience the full rustic lifestyle, you may choose to visit the rustic but comfortable outhouse located a short distance from the cabin. Breakfast will be served each morning in the cookhouse. The cookhouse is a community space with comfortable chairs and a woodstove, where you may choose to lounge, drink coffee and view the scenery through the all glass walls. A firepit is also available for your use. In the evenings, you may choose to sit around the firepit, roast marshmallows and hotdogs. A propane fired grill is available to each cabin for your own use. You may walk the full 10 acres of property. You will be able to walk the banks of the river, and even take a long walk down the trail running into the mountains. You may even choose to explore an old abandoned 100 year old log cabin, and outbuildings located just 1/4 mile down the road in the park. Check our other listings, we also have 3 other cabins. We have beautiful modern log cabins. Each cabin has a theme. This cabin, in this listing, is the "fishing" cabin. We also have, "Moose", "Bear", and "Hunter". Each cabin is decorated with authentic Alaskan decor to match it's theme.
