Description

Relax in our 2200 sq ft, 3 bd 2 b home on 1.5 wooded acres w 200 ft of private Kenai River frontage. The entire property is yours. Enjoy the river from the large deck w two 12 ft fishing platforms. Or, wake up, have coffee and watch the river flow by as you sit at the picture windows. The Sockeye run comes by the house July 18-Aug 7 quantity varies each year. Check info for Silvers (mid-late Aug) and trout before booking. You can also fish within 1.5 hrs in Seward and Homer w guided open water. The space The house/property is a great space for a group and yet plenty of room to get time for yourself. Our family and friends have enjoyed countless memorable experiences of delicious salmon dinners, thrills of varied adventures, and the peaceful, reflective nature of Alaskan wilderness. With my father's passing in 2016, our family pondered an appropriate way to manage the effort and hard-work our family has put into this home, along with honoring the memory of those who made this place so special. We decided that the best way to continue the tradition of great, Alaskan experiences would be to offer the River House for those who share our appreciation for good people and good food in good places. We hope that you may enjoy our home. Enjoy upgrades including higher-end Beauty Rest mattresses throughout, large gas dual fuel convection stove/oven and a dishwasher. There is plenty of kitchenware as well as Keurig, Ninja Coffee and a French Press for coffee makers to get their mornings start. We've also added a lot of little things to make your stay as comfortable as possible. See the list in the home manual for more details. The River House is located near mile 10 of Funny River Road and is right on the Kenai River. You can see all types of wildlife including bald eagles, fishing in the river or moose roaming the property. Located across the river from us is Morgan's Landing, a public river access point. Across Funny River road from our property is Bird Homestead 9 hole Golf Course. So, when you want to take a break from fishing head over to play a few rounds. Located on the main deck is the "Cribbage Cottage". Our Dad was the 1995 Funny River Festival Cribbage Champion and he often played with his friends here. It has a sofa, cot, table and fridge; it is a great getaway from the main house. The best snorer may get this accommodation. Fishing and Gear: We have an assortment of rubber boots at the house that you are welcome to use, some are hip-waiters and some are knee-high. There are plenty of fishing nets, a cleaning table, and a number of fishing poles you can use. It is better for you to bring your own reel. Most guests fish with a fly reel or spinning reel. An 8-9 ft pole is the best. 20 lb main line and 10-15 lb leader. After the main line add a weight and a 24-36 inch leader with a fly. There are two 12 foot fishing platforms attached to the large deck. The best time to catch sockeye salmon at the River House is July 19th - August 7th. You can fish before and after these dates but fishing is much slower. Please know each summer varies with the arrival and the number of sockeyes and some years are better than others. You can always fish for Rainbow Trout (these may be catch and release - check on line) and Dolly Varden. Check on-line for the best fishing pole set-up to catch the different fish. Many people set up guided trips on the Kenai or in Homer or Seward. Homer is about a 1.5 hours drive and Seward is less than 2 hours. The quality of fish runs vary each year on the Kenai. Silver salmon can be caught in the river mid-late August although you may have to go down river early in the run or fish from a boat with a guide. Check the state fishing info on the web for the latest info. There is a fridge/freezer upstairs in the kitchen and another one in the garage downstairs and another one in the "Cribbage Cottage". There is also a chest freezer in the garage to help you keep your fish frozen. Upstairs there is a 50 inch Samsung Smart TV w Dish Network. It also has a DVD player. So bring a few DVDs - we have a small collection. Guest access Use our place as a home-base and see all of the amazing sights the Kenai Peninsula has to offer. There's local shopping and dinning spots in Soldotna or Kenai both within 30 minutes. Don't pass up the opportunity to visit the town of Seward less than 2 hours north. Book a 1/2 or full day charter to view Alaskan glaciers, and sea life such as whales, dolphins and seals to mention a few. Traveling south from the house, visit Homer about an 1.5 hours away. Enjoy a walk on and Alaskan beach at Anchor Point, or Ninilchik. Tour Russian Orthodox churches that are part of Alaska's rich Russian history then tour the famed Homer Spit. It is a very unique 4.5 mile long piece of land jetting out into Kachemak Bay. The spit has a number of uniquely Alaskan shops, art galleries and seafood restaurants. Beaches can provide visitors a memorable Alaskan experience! Other things to note The Kenai Peninsula is Alaska's playground offering something for everyone. No matter what type of adventure or activity level you like, there is something for everyone. Try fishing or hiking to get your adrenaline pumping. The Kenai is world renowned for its wide-ranging fishing opportunities. Virtually any time of the summer is salmon fishing season on the Kenai. The best time to catch sockeyes at the River House is July 19-August 8th. Each summer varies with the arrival and the number of sockeyes and some years are slower than others. Fish for Salmon (check the fish run schedule), Rainbow Trout, Dolly Varden or Artic Grayling from our two 12 foot platforms. In addition, consider chartering a trip from Seward or Homer to fish for halibut and other saltwater species. Book soon as they fill their schedules early! Spend a day out on the water and reel in that barn-door size halibut! In addition, we can tell you about a couple of local fishing holes like Funny River Recreation Area just down the street or Morgan’s Landing directly across the river from the house. There are various guide services in the area. Refer to Alaska Fish Game website for historical fish counts (runs) dates. The most popular is the "late run sockeye" in late July Add 2-3 days, on average, for the run to come by the house. Use the site for fishing license and bag limits, which can fluctuate daily during the season. Guests caught silver salmon at the Soldotna Bridge mid-August as that is when those fish arrive. Sometimes the best way to catch Silver Salmon is from a boat with a guide. Each year is different in the quality and quantity of the fishing. You can also fish in the Russian River or the lower Kenai for salmon. A few years ago when fishing was slow at the house we went to Seward, scheduled a trip, and caught a bunch of Silver Salmon. Please check on-line as you plan your trip as the salmon fishing is very seasonal.
