EAST COAST NEWFOUNDLAND BARN
EAST COAST NEWFOUNDLAND BARN
Description
The Barn is not your classic big farm barn, this is a Newfoundland barn, enough to keep supplies a cow and hay for the winter. Today it is a liveable breathing space. When the wind blow, it blows a bit, so no surprises. Adventurers will like it! We are located conveniently on the Southern Shore, close enough to St. John's, Petty Harbour, Ferryland, Trepassy and even St. Vincent for day excursions. The Barn is next to the Cabin, the Bunky and the Tent, all listed on Airbnb. The space This shed is about as old and simple as any barn can be. Originally the barn of the house, it has been converted into a livable space, with some creature comforts - heater, bed, running water, outside washroom, hot plate, sofa, table and mosquito net. This space is more like camping with a solid roof, than having a purpose built cabin. So if the wind blows through it do not be surprised, it is fun and comfortable though, but can be cold and hot depending on weather. The barn has running water and rudimentary items for preparing a meal, we have coffee, tea, sugar, noodles and other basic kitchen items in the kitchen. A full washroom is located in the back of the adjacent Cabin. BBQ is accessible anytime - supplied with coals and started fluid. We interact with our guests only as much as they like. If we are around then we do the meet and greet on arrival, and we are around the compound a lot working on things. Bauline is what is called an "outport". Today we are about 1 hour from St. John's, the original settlement would have have been more than a day's horse ride from there. We are really at the end of the road, from our harbour you can go out to sea, or you go back to where you came from, or you can up into La Manche Park (hiking). Please in our neighborhood, still fish when they can, cut their own wood, some grow food, others go away to work in the oil projects, others are local carpenters. It is a colorful neighborhood. There is no public transport available. We can help if the circumstances are dire. Car rental is limited and expensive in Newfoundland so be ready for that. We do have one shoresman who drives up and down the shore once a day and can give lifts, but your day has be planned around his schedule. There is really no food shopping around here. The closest convenience store is 7 km, down the road and the closest supermarket is 20 km down the road, and the closest REAL market is about 35 km. All that is outlined in a package we send you before you come. Guest access You will have a bbq, picnic tables, available as well as a washer and dryer. Full bathroom is outside of the Barn but very close and it is shared with the Shed. During your stay If we are around we will greet the guests, and if they chose to have meals with us, we offer that. We are certainly nice to people - usually. Other things to note (URL HIDDEN) Registration Details 6555
