Perched high (1,225 feet above sea level) on 5 acres in the Sierra de Luquillo Mountain Range within the Caribbean National Rain Forest of Puerto Rico, El Escondido offers four unique Studio rentals for 2-night minimum stays among a 2 acre private collection of tropical gardens with year-round swimming pool. Each 325 sq ft studio has it's own entrance within one modern newly constructed building. The hosts live in an adjacent home and are here to help make your entire vacation a memorable one. The space Pictured, is one of two nearly identical UPPER LEVEL studios currently offered on a two night minimum stay basis. Each unit offers 325 square feet of tastefully decorated, well appointed living space. The main area features a queen size platform bed in addition to a full/queen size futon. Use the futon as a couch to enjoy local programming on the 40" flat screen TV or choose from our huge selection of DVD's. This room has two large open closets with shelves and hangers for all your personal belongings and plenty of electrical outlets in addition to USB ports for charging your cell phones and iPads. Each room has separate, individually controlled air-conditioning and a central ceiling fan with light in addition to overhead lighting at head of bed and a small light above end table. To allow for natural airflow and take in the sounds of the rain forest, open the screened windows above the bed and at the sliding door leading to the 8x12 foot attached covered balcony. The room also has black-out curtains for those who wish to sleep in late. The balcony features a kitchenette complete with sink, refrigerator/freezer, microwave oven, gas BBQ grill, coffee maker and enough delicious local coffee to get at least your first morning off to a great start. The balcony also has a ceiling fan with light, dining table and chairs for four and enough pot/pans, dinnerware and utensils to enjoy a home cooked meal. Whether cooking your own meal at home, enjoying an early morning cup of coffee or late night glass of wine, your private balcony is sure to be a favorite "go to" for enjoying sweeping panoramic views of the surrounding countryside including morning rainbows, evening sunsets and city lights of San Juan in the distance. Watch planes land at the international airport, spot a cruise ship, and if you're lucky, even catch a falling star. The private, en-suite bathroom features plenty of lighting, walk-in rain shower and a unique 4x6 foot one-way mirrored window high above the pool and gardens offering the same spectacular views as the balcony. Just remember to pull the curtain at night since the view is then reversed :) We offer bed linens, bath and beach/pool towels, toilet paper, hand and dish soap (please bring your own bath and hair care products). Guests are also welcome to take one of the small coolers in the rooms on excursions in addition to one of a few boogie boards located in the common area. Although not heated, our year-round pool is open 24 hours for guests and there's never a crowd. Enjoy an early morning swim, late night dip or work on your tan with a favorite book on one of several available sunbeds with umbrellas. The studios are located among 2 acres of privately held, well established tropical gardens which include a huge variety of flowering plants such as bromeliads, orchids, heliconia and gingers. Also in the gardens, you'll find giant tree ferns, black and white bamboo, colorful flamboyants and several varieties of mature palms. The bananas, passion fruit and papaya are for guest picking when in season. This abundance of vegetation is home to an array of small wildlife including lizards, iguana, butterflies and the famous Puerto Rican Coqui tree frog. Not to mention, a bird lovers paradise with over 30 different species of endemic and migratory birds. Because of limited parking space, only one vehicle per reservation will be permitted.
