At once laid back and elegant, it's on the top floor of a house designed by architect Ricardo Rivas (best known for the Cárcamo de Dolores building and fountain designed in conjunction with Diego Rivera in Chapultepec). It was remodeled by my father (also an architect), enclosing a balcony to make an interior terrace with skylights, and adding beautiful hardwood floors, an open kitchen, and Mexican tiled bathrooms and sinks. There is an amazing amount of natural light and it's very cozy and inviting... everyone who stays there remarks on what a nice vibe it has and on the many little details that make it so pleasant, like the tiny stained glass squares in the living room that let in colored light in the afternoons, the exposed brick in the main bedroom, and the skylights in the loft in the study that make it a great nook for reading. It's in a great walking neighborhood with an enormous and wonderful market 1 block away for fresh food (my mother calls it her "second refrigerator"), and very close to many public transportation options (2 subway lines, 2 Metrobus lines, Ecobici). The location is great, as well - very close to all the night life of Roma Norte and Condesa, but on a small, family-centric side street. One study/bedroom has a loft with skylights and a memory foam mattress topper as the bed (very firm, where I prefer to sleep for my back) and a full-sized cotton-batting futon under the loft that can be used as a couch for reading and lounging or a bed. A huge, L-shaped desk provides a wonderful place to work. The main bedroom has a full-size platform bed with a conventional mattress and a small writing desk, and a huge closet with a built-in dresser. The apartment is the top floor of a 4-story building (including ground floor) and is a walk-up. It is NOT in an apartment building, and below is just my mother's house, so you will have plenty of privacy and safety. Guest access Guests have access to the full apartment: living room, dining room, kitchen, two bathrooms with showers, and two rooms. We can also provide access to the roof (azotea) if you'd like to smoke or just get a view of the neighborhood. Let us know how many (and which) beds you need made up! Other things to note • Building safety has been verified by both a structural engineer and an architect after the 2017 earthquake. • High speed wifi internet. • Dishwasher, microwave, toaster oven, and washer & dryer (no full-size oven). • Parking for one car available upon request (ask about availability). • For security reasons, we strongly prefer guests with multiple verifications and references. If you do not have references, please tell us more about yourself. It helps to know details for peace of mind!
