The space Farmview, a vintage farmhouse, has been lovingly maintained, restored, and renovated to make it a comfortable stay for families and groups. All guests find their favorite spot in the house or the yard: napping in the hammock on the screened porch, reading a book on the lounge chairs and listening to the cows and rooster across the street, cuddling up near the fireplace on a cold winter evening, toasting marshmallows on the fire pit under the stars, playing cards around the dining room table. SUMMER 2024 Hikers: We do not offer a regular shuttle service to/from the Appalachian Trail and other area trails. YOUR SPACE: Entire 2-story vintage farmhouse renovated with your comfort in mind and decorated in a classic colonial farmhouse style. The surrounding private two acres of property are yours to explore. 1st floor: The main entrance through the sizable screened porch leads to an entry with several hooks to hang your outerwear and rugs to store your footwear. The laundry and utility room is conveniently close by for additional storage of gear and outerwear. The entry leads to a spacious modern kitchen that is fully stocked with cookware, bakeware, dishes, utensils, and small appliances. The kitchen table seats four. The new large appliances make cooking for two or for a crowd easy. With a small step down from the kitchen, the open dining room and living room areas give ample room to relax, eat, read, and make memories. The dining room table seats six comfortably. The built-in bookcases offer several collections of books including Maine fiction, classic literature, children's literature (focused on nature and New England), trails maps, field guides, and New England related non-fiction. The living room has a large sectional to seat several guests as they watch the Roku TV (DVD player too), warm up by the fireplace, or gaze out into the forest through the large picture window. Off of the living room is a new bedroom addition with a queen bed and windows with 180° view of farm and forest- north, west, and east. The first floor also has a small bath with a full size shower, fluffy towels, and toiletries. 2nd floor: The other three bedrooms and an open sitting room with a daybed, offer five beds for your family or group. The queen bedroom has incredible views of the farm and includes a desk and ample plug-in options for remote work. The forest room with a double bed overlooks the birch and pine forest. The "boys" room includes a twin and double bed under the eves of the house and charming outdoorsy décor. The sitting room is open to the hallway and offers a "bonus" sleeping option as well as extra space to relax, play games, or watch the ROKU TV. The main hallway upstairs is stocked with games, novels, and toys to enjoy. The upstairs bathroom is airy and bright, with a full size shower and tub, ample storage, and more fluffy bath linens including extra large bath sheets. Look closely at the doors and walls in this bath, they are original and even have the 1800s square nails. There are two staircases to access the second floor. One is original and steep (and can be blocked off) and we recommend using the larger renovated staircase for little ones and those with mobility concerns. Outdoors: The large screened porch is every guest's favorite. It is a great place to dine, sit, drink, play, swing, nap... and especially enjoy the view of the mountains and expansive classic farm to the West. Even on a mild winter day, it is nice to bring out a quilt and drink hot cocoa while taking in the view. In the warmer months, the backyard is set up with a gas grill, firepit, seating, and a picnic table. On the edge of the forest, it is not uncommon to watch chipmunks, squirrels, and deer walk through the yard. Access to the backyard is easy though the laundry/utility room. AREA: The Western Maine region is fairly rural and Andover is located about 30 minutes from the nearest grocery stores. There are not any 24-hour stores within a reasonable distance. Guests should be prepared to bring supplies that they will immediately need with them, especially when arriving at night as most stores in the area close at 8-9 pm. There is one 24/7 (card only) gas station in Andover. After leaving Andover, the nearest gas stations are about 20 miles away, guest should be aware so that they don't run out of gas before they get to their destination. Depending on your carrier, cell phone service especially data can be spotty in this area. Many people can receive and make phone calls from the farmhouse but while traveling through the area, you will encounter several dead zones. We do have WiFi at the farmhouse to help with your data needs and there are several establishments in the area that have free WiFi available. Guest access There is ample parking for about 4-5 vehicles and/or trailers. Additional parking for trailers is available across the street. The driveway and yard are not level enough for campers or RVs. We can accommodate parking only for a camper or RV across the street (no camping stays). Other things to note - Garage and barn are not for guest use. Guests may access garage to get firewood in winter and place trash in bins. - There are a few steps to get into the front of the house. For those with mobility issues, we can direct you how to drive around the back and access the house with only one step through the utility room. (There is one step between kitchen and living room as well.) Please ask if you need this assistance. - This is a rural area on the edge of mountains and forests. You will see wildlife in the yard and will encounter other insects near the property. Occasionally ladybugs, spiders, flies, or ants find their way inside the house. The house is regularly treated. We do our best to keep these pests away from the property, but we cannot control nature in its entirety :-) - Indoor fireplace is only functional during the winter (approximately November-March). Firewood and accessories for the fireplace are provided. Outdoor firepit and grill are put away for the winter due to snow. Wood for the firepit can be purchased from the local store.
