The Valley House Hostel is set in an historic Victorian country house on beautiful Achill Island, on the Wild Atlantic Way. The Hostel sleeps up to 32 guests in 6 private rooms & 2 dormitory rooms. Please note that individual rooms are bookable, not the whole house. The house is set on approximately 40 acres of land with beautiful woodland and direct access to a lake stocked with brown trout. We have a guest kitchen & lounge, a Traditional Pub and Courtyard Bar plus a Woodland Faerie Trail and lake on our grounds. Our pub is open year round. Our Bar Food/Restaurant and the Faerie Trail are generally open June to September. Welcome! Guests have access to the entire upper floor to the guest bedrooms, downstairs they can use the guest kitchen and lounge. A continental breakfast is served in the Dining Room each morning. Staff and owners live on the premises or nearby. We are available to our guests for any advice and help with local activities and will do our utmost to make your stay a memorable and enjoyable experience. We also run a cosy traditional pub attached to the hostel. A great place to enjoy a pint, a game of pool or a music session by the open fire. Note that the bar is open to the public with access via the courtyard but access to the house is for resident's only. The Valley House is set amid woodland, lakes and hills, on the Northeast side of Achill Island. You can drive on to the island via a bridge at Achill Sound, so access is easy and no ferries are necessary to get here. We are approximately 10km from Achill Sound and about 8km from Keel. You can cycle the wonderful Mayo Greenway, a scenic off-road cycling/walking trail. The island offers a superb range of adventure sports on land, lake and sea as well as gorgeous walks in the magnificent Achill landscape. Achill has 5 Blue Flag beaches and breathtaking scenery. Public transport around the island is limited, it is recommended to have a car or at least a bicycle to get around. You can get a train from Dublin (Heuston) to Westport, and the #450 bus travels from Westport to Achill. See the Bus Eireann website for the #450 bus timetable. Our stop is The Valley crossroads between Doogort and Dooniver. All bed linen and towels are provided, but please bring your own toiletries. Breakfast included is continental, please note we do not provide a cooked breakfast. We have a guest kitchen for your use if you wish to self-cater. We have a covered outside area with a bike rack where you can lock up your bike.
