Once known as Millingtons House, Sunways is a light-filled 1925 home just steps from the river and a short stroll to the ocean beach. With two spacious queen bedrooms, a fresh bathroom featuring Salus botanicals, and a sunroom made for lazy afternoons, it’s a place to slow down. The space Built in 1925 by Harold Millington for his wife and daughters, Sunways is a home that still breathes with history. Just steps from the river and a gentle walk to the ocean beach that bears the family name, it fills with golden light at every turn, the sea breeze flowing through linen curtains and timber floors that creak with stories. Inside, the refreshed interiors balance modern comfort with vintage soul. The new kitchen opens to the dining and living space, its cool stone island bench inviting conversation over morning coffee or a shared glass of wine. Two queen bedrooms promise slow mornings and restful nights, while the optional double bedroom can be unlocked if needed. The bathroom is a retreat of its own — steam rising in the rain shower, the scent of Salus botanicals filling the room, or the luxury of sinking into the freestanding bath with a glass of something sparkling. Curl up in the sunroom on soft window seats, where warm rays stream in as you turn the pages of a book, or step outside to the private garden for dinner under the stars. On arrival, a chilled bottle of Bellebonne sparkling rosé and fine Kenyak chocolates await — a little taste of Tasmanian indulgence. Sunways is full of quirks — wallpaper layers, weathered boards, the hum of age in every room — but this is its magic. Here, life slows, senses sharpen, and the simple rhythm of river, sea air and old bones is yours to savour. Other things to note To make your stay easier, Orford Riverside Café offers pre-arranged breakfast boxes, and Magnagati Pasta creates handmade pasta packs crafted with love by local resident Devy Artuso. Both options can be stocked in your fridge for arrival, ready for you to cook and enjoy. Please order directly with each business in advance to secure your meal. We have a cosy third bedroom with a double bed that can be opened upon request for an additional $25 per night. Please let us know if you’d like this room included in your stay. As a family with two young boys, you’ll also find a cupboard of board games, cards and a few toys under the TV, along with bikes and scooters in the shed (next to the laundry). You’re welcome to use these during your stay — just kindly treat them with care and return them as you found them. -We happily welcome a maximum of two dogs per booking. -Please include your pets in your booking notes. -Dogs are to be supervised and not left unattended inside the home. -They must be kept off furniture and bedding at all times. -Please clean up after your pets and dispose of waste thoughtfully. -Any excessive cleaning or damage may incur an additional charge.
