Within easy reach of the World Heritage Sites of Dambulla Rock Temple (11Km/23 mnts) and Sigiriya/Pidurangala (18km/27mnts), lies Gaia Lake Bungalow, Kandalama. Situated on the banks of Kandalama Lake it is a peaceful, serene place ideal for nature lovers, particularly bird watchers. They lake water is opened around the year for few dry months for agriculture, those months you get to enjoy riding bikes and picnics on the green meadows over looking the mountains. The space The private space of Gaia Lake Bungalow, with three bedrooms and a single room cottage is offered exclusively for you. You will be warmly served by our care taker and cook with Sri Lankan hospitality and traditional Sri Lankan food as well as fusion dishes influenced by the many cultures that we have come into contact with. The full bungalow is ideal for friends and families on vacation together. The bungalow comfortably holds up to 10 adults. The beautifully designed bungalow follows the modern tropical open format architecture which seamlessly brings the outdoors in. Trees and sky keep you company even in your shower! You can have a dip in the pool or a traditional well bath - and even more fun ‘pihilla’ - water sprout! The child friendly pool and enclosed traditional bath area are favorites with kids and adults alike. Our front ‘garden’ is in fact a fairly wild orchard and vegetable (optimistic!) patch… Beyond the bungalow the well groomed lawn rolls down to the lake bed – green or blue depending on the season. Our eclectic garden invites a variety of local and migrant birds, dragonflies and butterflies…it’s a safe haven for bush creatures such as mongoose, rabbit, tortoise. And…at times the big elephant pays us a visit. Guest access By hiring the entire bungalow, the guests will have exclusive access to all the spaces and facilities within the premises. The small pantry is particularly appreciated by families with young children, and adults who love an extra cup of tea…or coffee! Guests will have exclusive access to the whole garden that rolls down to Kandalama Lake. The garden includes a child-friendly swimming pool, enclosed traditional well and water sprout. Guests can also enjoy the peace and tranquility of sunrise from our rustic wooden deck by the lake watching the gracing cows, fluttering birds or fishing folk, as the season maybe. Easy access to popular tourist sites of Dambulla Cave Temple (15 min), Sigiriya and Pidurangla Rocks (35 Min) Minneriya and Kaudualla National Parks for elephant watching (1hr ). Other things to note * We try to minimize the use of plastic and do not encourage single use plastics. You villa will be complete with fresh filtered water and glasses. * We try our best to live in harmony with the neighborhood, both man and beast and preserve the nature in its true form. Hence, please respect privacy of the neighbors as it is a semi rural environment. We do not encourage loud music or noise as it would disturb both animals and people. You * You may come across certain days insects flock around the lights in the evenings/nights. This depends on certain weather conditions such as rainy season and are not deemed dangerous. Keeping windows closed and lights switched off will send them off to other areas. By confirming your reservation, guests have accepted that this is experiencing nature in its true form and the bungalow management will not be held responsible for any encounters. * As we are a family holiday home we do not have a license to sell alcohol. However, you can of course bring your own. * As this is not a hotel, you are welcome to bring your favorite snacks with you. * For those who enjoy the thrill of exploration we have a book full of little known sites that you can read up and explore around our Bungalow. * There is great cycling around the Kandalama Lake, and you are welcome to borrow the bicycles used by our family.
