The EAGLES NEST... Blue Sky Riverfront Retreat
Secret Gardens Farm is framed on the south by the Beautiful Nicola River and on the North by the striking landscape of semi-desert hills that change colour with the season. A little barn red fruitstand is nestled alongside the very quiet scenic highway. Big Horn sheep often visit. With the great Nicola River flood of 2021 the river has changed dramatically. It has widened in many places punctuated by sand bars and rip rap. The rock bottom is more stunning after the flood! This beautiful 1000 square foot house has high wood beam ceilings. A Panoramic Nicola River view with floor to ceiling windows on the south side. A brand new fantastic wood deck extends a stones throw from the river. The small 125 tree orchard of cherries, peaches, nectarines, pears, apricots, plums and frames the house on the north side...30 steps from the north entry. Eagles visit daily and bear, coyote and big horn sheep stop by on occasion. Sunshine seems to find Spences Bridge more often than not with the semi-desert climate assuring great weather. You will have free access of the farm. It is very open with the orchard located just steps away from the Eagles Nest back door. The vegetable ground crops consist of 72 rows...200 feet long and extend to the fruitstand...about a 1000 meters from the orchard. You are welcome anywhere on the farm...including the fruitstand. We would also be delighted to take you on a little walking tour of the farm and answer any "farm" questions you may have. Our little old farm house is located at the opposite end of our 150 acre property so isolated from the Eagles Nest...which I must say has the very best location on the Nicola River. If you would like a farm tour and check out our quaint operation we are always happy to oblige. I have also written the story of Spences Bridge for a book entitled...Reflections: a History of our local communities. Our café, The Packing House is named after the Widow Smith of Spences Bridge. (She packed world famous Grimes Golden apples with her children and ran a big orchard after her husband John passed away. The book of the same name has a coffee table place at the Eagles Nest. We have no neighbours...it is a beautiful thing! Paulet(my wife) plays guitar and sings wonderful campfire tunes. The campfire pit bordering the Nicola River is awesome. If you wish to have a night of hot dogs, marshmallows, smores and campfire crooning please inquire about price and availability. A guided farm tour, though the farm is small, will be full of history, info and any questions you may have. Available when I am...as I will be your guide...so please inquire as to availability. ********************************************************************************* The incredible Murray Creek Falls named after pioneer John Murray. Recently a short path right to the falls has been rebuilt with local talent. You can stand directly under the falls in a pool of crystal clear water on a typical hot summer Spences Bridge Day. The best thing about this...nobody goes up there! As wonderful as it is and being so close...it is often your own private little bit of magic. A number of fruit and vegetable farms...including my brother Mike's. I consider it the big farm as it has a couple thousand fruit trees and is located alongside the Thompson River.
