Going on an easy day trip south, you could visit Whittier and embark on a 26 glacier cruise; stop at the great Portage Visitor's Center with its interactive displays about Alaska and be amazed by hanging glaciers along the drive through Portage Valley. Portage Glacier is accessible via a short boat trip on Portage Lake. Drive a bit further on the designated Scenic Byway 'Seward Highway' toward Seward, most likely, you will see wildlife all along the way. Seward offers glacier and/or sea life cruises on Resurrection Bay passing through the Kenai Fjords and, if time still permits, plan to stop at the informative See Life Center and Exit Glacier.
