Rural Deer Isle, Maine living is a throwback to a gentler era in which all neighbors know and support each other, there are no traffic lights on the island, and no chain stores/billboards/commercial advertising of any kind. Stonington Harbor is Maine's busiest commercial lobster fishery with 300+ independently owned and operated small fishing vessels making it their home. Stonington is also home to Maine's largest Farmers' Market, and Maine is home to the first statewide organic farming association, MOFGA founded in 1970. When you come over our 1939 bridge across Eggemoggin Reach you get away to a different world. This is a country setting without public transportation. You will need a car (although road biking is also possible). Island and trail maps available. Our golden doodle, Jack, and herd dog Nellie will bark upon your arrival but it is in delight and a bit of doing their jobs... The cat, Olive, will choose to sleep with you if you leave your door open! Although these guys are resident, and we allow pets in our separate Long Cove Artist Cottage, pets are not allowed in the Owl's Wing Room. Thank you for keeping outside doors to the house as found.
