Queen Bed | Private Patio | 1851 Antebellum Suite
Queen Bed | Private Patio | 1851 Antebellum Suite
Description
A private first-floor suite in The Charlestonian in the heart of Cannonborough. One queen bedroom, one beautifully restored bath, a La Cornue kitchen imported from France, and a private rear patio with a Green Egg charcoal grill make this one of the most complete couples' retreats in downtown Charleston. Three blocks from King Street, steps from Spoleto Festival and next to the most celebrated restaurants in the South. Complimentary parking included. The space The 1BR Kiawah Suite occupies the first floor of The Charlestonian, a fully restored antebellum mansion built in the 1850s in Cannonborough, one of downtown Charleston's most walkable and vibrant neighborhoods. It is the most complete one-bedroom stay in the building: full La Cornue kitchen, private outdoor patio, Green Egg grill, rocking chair porch, Vermont slate bathroom, and parking, all for two guests who get every bit of it entirely to themselves. The queen bedroom is finished in cypress shiplap walls and centuries-old reclaimed heart pine floors dating to the early 1600s, the same material that frames the kitchen and flows through the living space. A sound machine, extra pillows and blankets, and a smart charging station at the bedside. The bedroom was designed for the kind of sleep that makes a trip feel like a genuine reset. The kitchen is the heart of the suite and the reason food travelers book The Charlestonian specifically. A La Cornue gas range and cooktop, imported from Saint-Ouen-l'Aumône, France, anchors a space finished with a custom reclaimed heart pine island and cabinetry, All-Clad cookware, full glassware, and Vent-A-Hood ventilation. For a couple who wants to cook a proper dinner, stop at 167 Raw for fish to bring home, or make a real breakfast before a day of exploring, this kitchen makes that possible in a way no hotel room ever could. The bathroom is tiled in original Vermont slate quarried in 1851, with a hand-hammered nickel-plated vessel sink, salvaged standing-seam tin backsplash from the original porch roof, and a period water closet sourced from Kent, England. Premium bath products, plush towels, hair dryer, and iron throughout. Outside, the suite has two distinct outdoor spaces, rocking chairs on the front porch overlooking Cannon Street for morning coffee and evening people-watching, and a private rear patio with lounge seating and a Green Egg charcoal grill with complimentary charcoal for evenings in. In Charleston's climate, these spaces are usable ten months of the year. Samsung 4K Smart TV with YouTube TV, Netflix, and Amazon Prime Video. Dedicated workspace with high-speed WiFi. In-unit washer and dryer. Complimentary parking for one vehicle. This suite sleeps 2 guests maximum. Guests needing more bedrooms will find the 3-bedroom Kiawah Suite in the same building, reach out and we can check availability. Operating Permit: OP2025-06529 Guest access This suite has access to the large front porch with exclusive, dedicated seating, a private rear porch, and patio with Green Egg charcoal grill, complementary charcoal. Complimentary parking for one vehicle. Other things to note We are three blocks from King Street, right in the middle of all Charlestonian activity. Incredible restaurants such as Southbound, Verns, 167 Raw, Malagon, Indaco, and Azur. Great places to have drinks are even closer at places like Felix, Stars, Babas, and Prohibition. There are also great niche restaurants closer than King Street, such as coastal Italian at Allora or creative Indian at Rivayat. If you want the full Charleston experience, a walking tour or carriage tour is a must. If you have sea legs and are aiming for total immersion into history, the steamboat runs to Ft. Sumter daily and you can land your two feet exactly where the Civil War started.
