The space Welcome to Swallows Cottage, our beautifully restored Peak District retreat, tucked away at the end of a private lane just two miles from the historic market town of Ashbourne. Surrounded by five acres of private gardens and orchards, it's a peaceful place to relax, reconnect and enjoy the countryside. For over 15 years we've welcomed guests to Swallows Cottage, and we're delighted that so many choose to return year after year. Every detail has been carefully considered to create the kind of retreat we would love to stay in ourselves. The interiors blend timeless country-house elegance with modern comfort, featuring OKA furnishings, Pooky lighting, original works of art and carefully chosen French antiques. The principal bedroom centres around an antique four-poster bed with a wonderfully comfortable Loaf mattress dressed in crisp white cotton bed linen, while a second twin bedroom makes the cottage equally suited to couples, friends or families. One of the cottage's most distinctive features is its private heated outdoor swimming pool (June–August)—an exceptionally rare luxury in the Peak District. After a day exploring Dovedale, the Tissington Trail, Chatsworth House or Haddon Hall, it's the perfect place to unwind. Outside, guests are free to enjoy five acres of gardens and orchards, with croquet, table tennis, a charming Wendy House and beautiful walks directly from the doorstep. Although Swallows Cottage is completely self-contained, it's next to our family home, so we're always nearby should you need local recommendations or assistance. Otherwise, we'll leave you to enjoy the privacy and tranquillity that make the cottage so special. Other things to note We've been welcoming guests to Swallows Cottage for over 15 years and are proud to have received hundreds of wonderful reviews from visitors who return time and time again. Before opening it as a holiday cottage, we actually lived here ourselves while restoring our nearby home. Because of that, we've furnished and equipped it as somewhere we'd genuinely love to stay, with all the little touches that make a real difference. You'll find crisp, hotel-quality white cotton bed linen, fluffy towels, a De'Longhi bean-to-cup coffee machine for your morning cappuccino, a well-equipped country kitchen with plenty of cooking essentials, and comfortable spaces designed for relaxing after a day exploring the Peak District. Outside, you're free to enjoy over five acres of beautiful gardens and orchards. Challenge family and friends to a game of croquet on the lawn, enjoy a friendly match of table tennis, watch the children discover the charming Wendy House, or simply wander through the gardens listening to the birdsong. From the cottage door, you'll also find countless scenic walks, from gentle strolls to spectacular Peak District hikes. Our aim has always been simple: to create the sort of place we'd love to return to ourselves—a peaceful, comfortable retreat where guests can slow down, relax and make lasting memories.
