Description

The Fennel Old House may be the most spectacular location on the South Shore! Car-accessible, remodeled 4-BR w/ skylights built in 1906 on a secluded island cove w/ amazing views. 50-feet from the water, overlooking a picturesque, rocky cove and wide bay. Renovated kitchen w/ high-end appliances, comfortable LR with TV, high-speed Internet, landscaped yard, 4 sundecks, 2 wood stoves, lots of wildlife like deer. 5-min drive from beaches on Lighthouse Route. See Fennel Old House video on YouTube. The space The Fennel Old House is one of a dozen homes on the picturesque LaHave Islands. Once a fishing community, the islands are made up of year-round folks and summer residents, and still maintain the charm and beauty of the past. Our home (circa 1906), which we bought in 1956, overlooks a secluded cove and wide bay. It sits 50 feet from the water with spectacular views. It's been renovated with a new foundation, many new windows, and three attached decks (a huge front deck overlooking the water, a roof deck overlooking the front, back and sides, and a back deck). It can comfortably sleep six adults in four bedrooms with brand new (huge!) skylights that have solar-powered room darkening shades which open with a remote control.. The master bedroom has a large, attached changing room, which can also accommodate a crib. The other two upstairs bedrooms have three twin beds. A downstairs bedroom has a double bed. Our home features a newly-renovated kitchen which looks out over the dining room. It has new hand-made cabinets, beautiful Brazilian soapstone counters, new high-end stainless steel appliances (a glass-top stove, a French door fridge with ice maker, 3-level dishwasher, farmhouse sink). It has dimmable, 3-color temperature lighting under the counters. Also comes with a microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker and grinder, food processor, quality china and flatware and much more. We wish you happy cooking! Eat your meals at the dining room table while enjoying a wide open view of the cove and bay through a large picture window. The living room has a 36-inch HDTV (no cable or satellite but you can use connected devices such as Apple TV or a Roku box to get programming), a DVD player (with a collection of DVDs), a stereo/CD/tape deck (with a variety of CDs), mini pool table, and a large book collection of Nova Scotian culture. The house has painted wood floors, period-moldings, wainscoting, and tongue-in-groove walls throughout the upstairs. Enjoy kayaking (a local company can deliver them), lounge or eat on the gazebo, play badminton or croquet, pick wild blueberries and raspberries, or just relax, listening to the seagulls and watching fishing boats in the bay. In the evening, barbecue in the back yard, and enjoy spectacular sunsets over the cove. Come home from a day at the beach or touring to warm in front of one of two wood stoves. The first floor also has baseboard electric heating with thermostats in each room, and portable, safe, high-powered heaters on the second floor. We provide bedding and bath towels, other supplies such as toilet paper, and a washer/dryer. We have replaced our compost toilet with a standard flush toilet so please disregard any issues with the old toilet mentioned in any previous reviews. We have wireless high-speed Internet, and the cell service is good. We do not allow smoking of any kind inside our home. Guest access The house will be all yours. We won't be living at our home when you stay there. Other things to note Length of Stay: During the high season, from June through the end of September, we generally require a 7-night minimum, which runs from Saturday to Saturday. If you want to arrive on a different day, we may be able to accommodate, but we would need to discuss this, so please do not book without first communicating with us. All other times of the year, we have a two night minimum. Connectivity: TV, high-speed wireless Internet and good cell phone service. Kid Friendly: Our property is a kid's paradise, between a large yard, rocks to climb around on at the waterfront, and woods to explore. Many books, games, and some toys for tots. Pet Friendly: Huge yard for dogs to play in. Pets are welcome, and we charge a $100 US non-refundable pet fee. Boating: We have a wooden slip which can be used for kayaks. Gazebo: The screens were recently torn, so the screened part of the gazebo is not currently functioning. But you may use the platform. House Tour Video: Search "SkyView on LaHave Island" on YouTube. US-CDN Exchange Rate: To keep our home affordable to Canadians, we've reduced our rates to compensate for the weak Canadian dollar. Information: Upon booking, we will send you a detailed packet of info which has information about the house to help with your stay, directions, and a list of things to do in the area.
