And many other activities that can make for an unforgettable and pleasurable vacation. We will make easy check-in arrangements with you according to your arrival time. I am always available to answer any questions you may have. Check-In time is at 3pm, and Check-Out time is at 11am. There is a concrete and stone road towards the house. If it is raining hard, a normal car may have some difficulty getting up to the house since the slope is somewhat steep. A 4X4 car is recommended. In normal weather road is OK for all cars. Our property is right off the National Route 230. We are 12-15 min. away from downtown Turrialba in car. San Jose is 90 min. away, and San Jose Airport about 1.45 hours away. We are within minutes and less of an hour of most attractions and activities. Some tour companies in the area offer one-day or longer tours to La Fortuna/Volcán Arenal area. Turrialba is a nice stop between San Jose Airport and Puerto Viejo. Same day trip to the beaches is possible. Trip in car is about 3 hours to either Jaco beaches in the Pacific side or Puerto Viejo beaches on the Atlantic side. You will have all our secluded, private place all to yourselves. We will be available for any questions at any time. Verbena Norte, where our property is located at, is part of Turrialba. We are 15 min. from downtown. There are some houses around us along the main road, but far away from our house. No noise from neighbors. There is some light traffic noise below but it quickly gets background noise. The closest store to buy basic things like eggs, milk, bread, is 5 min. away from us in car. Again, San Jose is 90 min. away, and San Jose Airport about 2 hours away. We strongly suggest that you rent a vehicle (ideally a 4X4) to be able to move around to the different attractions. Consider renting a car with an available seat for a paid tour guide. There are many tour companies that will offer tours with transportation, but they will charge you per person. It is cheaper to have your own transportation and to pay a private tour guide for the day. We can recommend certified tour guides. If you do not rent a vehicle, we can recommend trustworthy people who can go pick you up at the airport. Once here, you can use the bus or taxis to get to places, even main attractions. Local buses charge less than a dollar each way, and they run about 8 times a day each way. The bus stop is in front of our property. Taxis charge about $8-9 to downtown Turrialba. Getting to Turrialba from the airport could be a bit challenging due to the lack of signs on the roads, if you prefer, for a charge, we could send someone to meet you and guide you here. Otherwise, GPS should be fine. On the way to Turrialba, after you leave San Jose, you can stop by a Walmart or a PriceSmart (the equivalent of Sam’s store in the US) to get your groceries. Buying local cheeses at Santa Cruz on your way here is a must. There are Maxi Pali’s stores in Turrialba (run by Walmart and similar to small Walmart stores) where you can get pretty much anything. Near our house there is only a small local grocery store (5 min. drive) to get the basics such as bread, eggs, milk, etc We love long-stays! This is a perfect place to work remotely. We are excited and committed to make your stay with us a very pleasant experience. This property is not suitable for families with children younger than 3 years-old due to the deck’s height. Older children will definitely enjoy their stay here playing in the guava trees, pool, trampoline, soccer field area, basketball court, and running around the extensive property grounds. Luggage drop-off is available if you get to the area before check in time or have a late departure. Pool not to be used when there is thunder and lightning. We suggest adult supervision when kids use the pool and trampoline. We have two Belgian Malinois living on the other side of the property. They may visit your side sometime, so if you prefer not to see them around at all, or if you are bringing dogs or pets, please let us know, so that we can be extra careful to keep them on our side. Due to our fruit trees, in certain times of the year, flies come into the house, and they can be pesky. We have fly swatters and a fan available if needed. Not a huge problem, but we prefer to mention it. Average temperature is in the mid 70 degrees Fahrenheit, so there is no air conditioning. The mountain air and breeze is incredible, although there might be an occasional afternoon where it might feel a little warm inside the bedrooms, but not outside. There is hot water in the showers but not in the kitchen or bathroom faucets as it is typical in Costa Rica. House Manual, with recommended items to bring, is available after reservation is confirmed. As this is an off the beaten path area in Costa Rica, not a lot of local people speak English, but guides and tour companies do. You should be OK ordering at restaurants. We are here to help in any way we can. This area and our property are truly a gem! We know you will love it here. Please let us know if you have any questions.
