The Guest House at Maktub Biodynamic Farm is a gorgeous, private, cottage, filled with plants and natural light, located in the foothills of the village of Woodbridge on the D'Entrecasteaux Channel. The space The Guest House at Maktub Biodynamic Farm is an intimate, peaceful and cosy place to escape city life! It provides a perfect base to spend a peaceful weekend or week away exploring Southern Tasmania's Coal River Valley, the Tasman Peninsula, Huon Valley, Channel and Bruny Island or simply relaxing on the veranda watching the birds whilst the sun sets over the mountain. There are many great local attractions, vineyards, restaurants, & outdoor activities within easy access. Chrissie also offers Kayaking and Sailing experience. Message her for more details. The Guest House at Maktub Biodynamic Farm is unique in its design and construction featuring a beautiful cordwood feature wall and beautifully hand-crafted alternate tread stairs. Come, relax, disconect and unwind. Go for an evening stroll and enjoy the chorus of frogs, catch a glimpse of our Tasmanian wildlife - insectivorous bats, gliders, wallabies, bandicoots and possums. If you are lucky, you may spot a tawny frogmouth or barn owl. The Guest House has a delightful mezzanine space where a luscious queen bed awaits. Great views of the southern sky where you can watch shooting stars and the Aurora Australis light up the night sky. Relax in the lounge and be warmed by the radiant heat from the wood fire. The kitchen dining area looks west to the Woodbridge Hill, a comfy couch allows for basking in the afternoon winter sun. The well equipped kitchen, has a small pantry with essential items available for use. We offer delicious d’Entrecasteaux Platters paired with local wines for special occasions (extra cost). Please enquire to Chrissie at time of booking. During the day, the garden abounds with a large variety of birdlife. Yellow tailed black cockatoos, eagles, a variety of wattlebirds, honeyeaters and robins (scarlet, dusky, pink), cuckoo shrikes, tree martin's, forest ravens, superb fairy wren, green rosella , bronze wing, kookaburras, grey shrike thrush, hawks and swamp harriers. An afternoon glass of bubbles by the pond or on the verandah watching the abundant bird and wildlife and the sun set over the hill is a must. There is also a trudle bed available for a third guest. The kitchen has a gas cook top and microwave with lovely views across farm land. The dining area has lovely views up the Woodbridge Hill and is the perfect place to sit watch the sunset and be entertained by the antics of our chooks. A seperate longe area has a delightful wood fire. The bathroom has a shower, hand basin and Nature Loo composting toilet, which is clean, and sweet smelling. Water supply for bathing and drinking is rainwater. You will not taste rainwater like it anywhere else in the world. It is lovely to drink and your skin and hair will delight in its softness. As we rely 100% on rain for our water supply we ask that you use it with care and respect when showering. We have sheep and chooks (including a rooster who protects the hens from predators). You will hear a dawn chorus of frogs, chooks, roosters, and other animals calling across the valley. There are ear plugs avaialable if this is a concern to you. Guest access The Guest house is completely private. Guests have access to kayaks and fishing gear and we can even take you for a sail on our cruising yacht (additional charge applies) Other things to note The alternative tread staircase is reasonablly steep. It may not be suitable for people with mobility issues. The closest big shopping center is located in Kingston about 20 minutes drive towards Hobart. There is a smaller supermarket at Cygnet which is also 20 minutes drive over the Woodbridge Hill. Woodbridge has a small village store and post office. Just so you are aware the local restaurants hours and menu is available at (URL HIDDEN) and the other (URL HIDDEN) We rely on rain water for ALL our water supply so ask our guests to be mindful of water use. WIFI is not provided however, there is good mobile reception and computers can be tethered from your mobile phone.
