Description
A Grade II Listed cottage that is old, quirky, quite unique and very original. If you like cottages with character you will love this. If you like modern, characterless boxes please don't even consider it. It is situated in a very quiet area but only a ten minute walk from the town centre and Ffestiniog Railway in one direction and the Llechwedd Slate Mine and Zip World Complex in the other. You can also walk straight into the mountains from the doorstep. The space Please read the description carefully. The cottage dates back to at least 1834 and is one of the few cottages to escape the regeneration scheme in Blaenau still retaining its lovely old sash windows and original Welsh slate roof. Internally it retains a lot of the original features including a rare Welsh oven - unfortunately not in use. It is also interesting as it's one of the few cottages in Blaenau actually built of slate - which is what the town is famous for. The cottage is a little bit of Blaenau Ffestiniogs history and is mentioned twice on the Cadw (Welsh Governments Historic Environment Service) website and is now Grade II Listed. It consists of a lounge/diner, kitchen, bathroom , double and single bedroom. The lounge/diner has two double settees, dining table for three and a FreeSat 32" Panasonic Viera TV + Amazon Firestick with DVD player. There is a small selection of books and games available. The kitchen is well equipped with an electric cooker, fridge with icebox, microwave, slow cooker and sandwich toaster. The bathroom which is upstairs, unfortunately due to the sloping ceiling, has no shower but there is a bath with a hand held mixer shower and unlimited hot water available. The single bedroom is a very unusual shape with two pretty little windows and the double bedroom is quite large with its own wash basin but be aware there is a step down into it but a night light is provided if required. Be aware, there are low doorways, sloping ceilings in some rooms and steep stairs which all add to the charm of the property. Parking is available in a public parking bay about 5yds past the cottage (1 car only) and there is access to private enclosed parking, for 1 family size car or small van only, if required. The cottage has gas central heating and WiFi. Towels are not provided. No garden but you do walk straight out into the mountains. The cottage quite happily accommodates 3 people but be aware it is only a small cottage. What is and isn't provided in the cottage :- Bed linen, tea towels, a kitchen hand towel and gas/electricity are included in the price. There are no bath towels so please remember to bring your own. You'll find tea, coffee and sugar but no milk. There is also salt, pepper and vinegar. Individual sachets of tomato ketchup, brown sauce, mayonnaisse and mustard Washing up liquid, dish cloth and scourer and all cleaning products but no washing detergent. There is usually cling film and tin foil but I won't guarantee this. Loo paper, kitchen roll and hand soap. Guest access Guests have complete run of the cottage. Other things to note There is a strict no smoking policy in the cottage and no pets. There are steep stairs and low doorways and some sloping ceilings so may not be suitable for the very tall, very young or elderly. There is a step down into the double bedroom - a nightlight is provided if required. Towels are not provided. Allergies - dogs do occasionally use this property. Also, there are feather pillows and duvets. If required there are synthetic pillows and duvets available.
