For context, Texas became a state in 1845 so not long after statehood, the Government Hill Alliance neighborhood was founded. Government Hill has some outstanding historical properties like the Nickerson House, the historic St Paul's Episcopal Church, Terrell Castle, and more. As in many older, established neighborhoods, the neighborhood had its initial glory days, then went through a decline. It is now being rejuvenated with the restoration of many historic properties, like the Nickerson House, and new building as well.
