Oceanside bliss while relaxing at The Blue House.

At the Blue House, guests will enjoy a close-up view of the ocean from inside this recently-renovated home-away-from-home, complete with the relaxing sounds of gently-crashing waves and long, drawn-out sunsets that make Port Clements famous. Located just a block from the long dock, a popular place for fishing and crabbing. North Beach is a 40-minute drive away where guests will find the islands’ most popular surfing and swimming destination, and a 20-minute drive from the community of Tlell. There is a Bose wifi speaker which can be used with your phone or iPod, I can be reached at 250 981 7051 if you need anything at all. I leave the door open and the keys hanging just inside the door, so you can arrive at your leisure. The highway is a beautiful drive, whether you are coming from Skidegate or Masset. Don't feel odd if everyone else is waving at you: we do that around here. Develop your own Haida Gwaii wave, I generally use a finger peace symbol. Coffee pot, kettle, and teapot are near the sink. The heater has a control that is used to change the temperature up or down. It is kept on the square table in the middle of the house. Please turn to 68 when you leave. Garbage day is Friday and the tins need to be taken to the street Thursday night or early Friday morning. There are many raccoons around so the tins need to be strapped and weighted down with a rock or brick inside the can. There are 2 decks that you may smoke on. The side one is covered for when it is raining. If you arrive on Sunday or late in the day, after 6, the store in Port Clements will be closed. The pub serves dinner, and the gas bar has breakfast and lunch. The Co-op in Masset is open Sundays for food and fishing licences. I supply the basics; coffee, sugar, flour, tea, toilet paper and laundry soap, as well as linens. Please bring your personal hygiene supplies, such as shampoo, face washes or fancy soaps, as I don't stock those items. If you love bathing in the tub, bring bubbles or salts. If you arrive late pm and need a store, Queen Charlotte is south of the ferry terminal, about 10 minutes. Their stores are open till 6. There is a co-op grocery in Skidegate, not far from the ferry terminal, that is open till 6. The site Gohaidagwaii has lots of information on what to do. Also, I have a profile on Love Haida Gwaii with lots of new pictures. The dishwasher takes a long time to complete its cycle. It helps to run the tap until the water is hot first. I'm hoping that this will help with the basics. Now, let's address the 'Where in the heck is....' The white canisters hold flour, sugar, and tea. The coffee, filters, and sugar cubes are on the lazy susan under the coffeemaker. There is a grill for pancakes. There is a container for recycling in the kitchen, and the garbage is the white bin. There are bags under the sink. Friday is garbage collection and the trash needs to be out by 8:30. You can choose to water the plants, or I will drop by and water them every few days. There is a hose on the side of the building to water the containers and window boxes. Please let me know if you are OK with me coming by, and I will gladly take care of the plants. The baking pans are in the woodstove, and the pizza pan is on top of the fridge. There is a fire pit with some wood in the back yard and driftwood for fuel on the beach behind the house.
