Description

Winding through a Madrona forest hillside on the coveted Westside of San Juan Island, Haro Sunset House greets you with sweeping views from Vancouver Island to Salt Spring Island to the North. This home is known for its stunning views from the expansive deck and with amazing wildlife viewing. The home is near San Juan County Park for beach access and the iconic Lime Kiln Light House. The owner’s home is located next door, yet separated by two garage structures, leaving a feeling of seclusion. The space Haro Sunset House is a recently remodeled home with contemporary flare and the artwork of the resident artist and owner, Lisa Lamoreaux. The spacious King bedroom faces West for beautiful sunsets, and the large bathroom features an extra deep soaking tub. The Queen bedroom is right off the private back courtyard with hottub and also has a full bathroom. There is also access to this bathroom from the main living room. There are two pull-out chair-beds located in the living room. The spacious gourmet kitchen features professional appliances and plenty of table ware for group meals in the dining room. The living room is where you can cozy up on the large couches and watch the happenings on Haro Straight... summer brings whales and winter is the perfect time to watch storms coming in. The owners home and art studio are next door on the property, separated by two garages. The art studio is open for visits by appointment. ABOUT ME: I was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest and lived in Bellingham and the Greater Seattle area until I moved to San Juan Island in 2017. I've been a full time studio artist for over 25 years and I find endless inspiration from the Islands and the flora and fauna that make their homes here. Guest access Guests have access to eleven acres of gorgeous hillside with developing trails throughout. The entire house, deck, private back courtyard with hot tub are available only to guests of Haro Sunset House. There is a shared courtyard between the owners house and Haro Sunset House. Other things to note Please note: *We have two bedrooms that accommodate up to four guests comfortably. We can accommodate 6 guests cozily with the use of two pull-out chair-beds located in the living room that are the size of a single bed. Special note: super tall people are not usually fond of the length of a single bed. *Our posted nightly rates are based on local comparable listings with two bedrooms and 4 guests. Because we can accommodate 6, we charge a fee for the extra guests, per person, per night. This fee is shown when you enter the number of guests to your booking. The platform will not allow nuances in your extra guest’s arrival and departure, so if they arrive later in your stay, or for a limited time frame, please let us know in advance so we can make sure you are not over charged. Also, so we can make sure you have beds and amenities available (towels, bedding, coffee, water usage, insurance etc). *The wifi at the house should be sufficient for email, streaming video, one video call etc., though it will not support multiple simultaneous video calls or gaming. WiFi on the west side of the Island is often a challenge, so if a video meeting is super important, it’s best to go to the town of Friday Harbor for service. *Cell service can be spotty on this side of the island, depending on your carrier. Please enter the Haro Sunset Address into your GPS or Maps App before leaving the town of Friday Harbor. *We have a hot tub, and (knock on wood), we haven’t had any trouble with it for over a year! However, hot tub repair is not actually a thing out here on the Island, (we found this out the hard way) which is why you won’t find many rentals here with them. Having said that, please know that on occasion, as happens with mechanical things that involve electricity and water, the hot tub goes on strike. Fortunately, Joe is a wizard in this arena, so we have decided to keep the hot tub as an amenity on our listing. We have only had it quit a few times, but if a hot tub is mandatory, you may want to stay someplace else. We hope you will enjoy a taste of Island living, with all of its quirks, restrictions, and yes, relaxation! Island time is a real thing. *The driveway to Haro Sunset House is half a mile long and has a couple steep switchbacks through a Madrona forest... it can feel like it’s taking forever! Enjoy the forest and know that soon you will be enjoying the view! *San Juan County Vacation Rental Permit #22-0100
