Traditional Istrian Stone House

Our house is a perfect choice for couples or families, lovers of nature and rural life. The accommodation is part of the family tourist farm "Pod staro figo/Under the Old Fig Tree". It is located in the authentic Istrian village of Gažon which is situated on a hilltop above the coastal towns of Koper and Izola. It has only a few tourist capacities, so it remains still a normal living village. The village is surrounded by vineyards and olive orchards. The space The location of the house is a perfect spot for discovering Slovenian Istria as the inland of the country. The countryside features beautiful landscapes, picturesque villages and outstanding historical sites for you to explore. It is possible to reach the seaside in 10 minutes by car. You can also get to Ljubljana in 1 hour, to Venice in 2 hours and Trieste in 20 minutes. The coastal towns of Izola and Koper are just 7 km away. Izola and Koper are accessible by bicycle or a good hour walk but be aware of the steep way back. The listing is a traditional 200 years old stone house that still has its charms. The apartment has a large living room, (NO KITCHEN - at extra charge we can provide breakfast based on local products) with pull out sofa bed, a doublebed bedroom, a bathroom, anteroom and a traditional balcony with outdoor stone staircase (baladur). It is furnished with original 19th century furniture. There are handmade terracotta tiles on the floor and on the ceiling. The original wooden roof structure has been preserved and restored. The guests can park their car in the shade of a large mulberry tree in front of the house. Free Wi-Fi. No TV - you can chill out listening the gentle sound of birds and crickets in the garden or the fire crackling in the fireplace instead. Terrace, mediterranean garden with table, sun loungers, a stone sink with garden tap for refreshment. A good restaurant with typical local food is 5 minute car drive away. Guest access The location is accessible by car. The guests can park their car in front of the house. There is a bus stop next to the accommodation but there are only few daily bus connections. The cost of a taxi ride from Koper to Gazon is €9-€12. The closest airports are in Trieste (TRS) 65 km, Pula (PUY) 71 km and Ljubljana (LJU) 126 km. We offer bicycle (2) rental. Other things to note There is a variety of sports to practice: the spot is perfect for cycling, you'll be able to try archery, we run also a SSI scuba diving school with experienced scuba diving instructors . We offer bicycle (2) and snorkeling gear rental. You can discover the countryside hiking in the shade of the olive orchards and forests following the footpaths surrounded by historic stone walls. Tourist tax Tourist tax is an additional charge; €2,5/person/day; €1,25/person/day (children 7-18 years). Tourist tax is to be paid before check-out. Breakfast At extra charge we can provide breakfast based on local products. House manual It is not allowed to wash dishes or clothes in the bathroom sink. If you have something to wash, use the garden sink. On request we will provide you with a detergent and a sponge and if needed a plastic sink. Do not have open windows when cooling is on. Important note: Remove the mosquito nets before closing the windows. If not necessary, the garden lights should be switched off. The switch is under the balcony. Always use bars (long or short) when the shutters are open or closed.
