Verna's Cottage

We are delighted to share our family cottage with you. This rustic and simple cabin was built by our family and has been a respite from daily life for decades. Enjoy views of Summerville Beach during the day and fall asleep to the sound of the waves crashing on the shore at night. 3 minute walk to Summerville Beach, 10 minute drive to White Point Resort, 15 minute drive to Liverpool, 90 minutes from YHZ airport. Beaches, Lighthouses, and more are all nearby. The space Our Aunt Verna and Uncle Fred built this special seaside retreat in the 1950s. This cottage is best suited for 1-3 persons but sleeps 5. Kitchen includes 2 induction burners, microwave, small fridge with separate freezer, toaster, electric kettle, and plenty of counter space. A small charcoal grill is provided for use outdoors should you so choose (charcoal not included). Half bath includes new fixtures as of 2018. As of 2025 we have transitioned to an incinerating toilet. The toilet is simple to use and very sanitary. If you have questions about it, please ask. The only shower on the premises is a fully functioning outdoor shower. Indoor showers available at nearby independent Hostel or Resort for small fee. Bedrooms include doors with latches for privacy. Note that walls are simple partitions that terminate just above the height of the doors - they do not extend fully to the top of the ceiling. The cottage is most enjoyable with 3 or fewer persons per night. This cottage is not childproofed. Cottage is equipped with ceiling fan. Off-street parking: 2 cars Guest access Take advantage of any of the many beach's in the area (Carter's Beach, Hunts Point Beach, and Summerville Beach), or see any of the area lighthouses (Western Head, Spectacle Island, Ft. Point, Port Medway, East Port Medway, and more). Enjoy day trips to Yarmouth, Kejimkujik Nat. Park, Kejimkujik Seaside Adjunct, Lunenburg County, and more. Stop by Queens Coastal, three minutes from Summerville Centre, for Nova Scotia crafts, jams, and baked goods. Proceeds support local artisans and artists. Liverpool/Brooklyn, home of figures such as Hank Snow and author Thomas Radall, is a quick 15 minute drive. Stop by the Hank Snow Museum or discover more about privateers, Thomas Radall, and Queens County at the Queens County Museum. Fitness facilities available on short term memberships at White Point Resort and Queens Place Emera Center. Fresh produce available weekly in Privateer Park, Liverpool. Grocers Atlantic Superstore and Sobeys, both in Liverpool, are also a quick 15 minute drive from the cottage. Dining: Quarterdeck Restaurant is steps from the cottage. Seaside Seafoods and Seascape Restaurant are both within 5 minutes by car or drive to Liverpool for Lanes Privateer Inn and Restaurant, and local pubs and diners. Other things to note This cottage has been our family respite for many years - first our great aunt & uncle, then our parents, and now us - and we are excited to be able to share it with you when we are away. Both the cottage and our family heirlooms hold a special place in our hearts and we hope you find it as peaceful and heartwarming as we do.
