Guest access SHARED AREAS In addition to the PRIVATE AREAS (your own bedroom and one of the two bathrooms), all guests have access to and use of the following SHARED AREAS: COMMON AREAS - 1 kitchen - 1 dining room - 1 living room - 2 balconies - 1 laundry room - 1 luggage storage area The KITCHEN is equipped with a two-burner cooktop, a fridge-freezer, pantry staples (coffee, tea, salt, sugar, olive oil, balsamic vinegar), and all the necessary tableware and cookware (cutlery, wine glasses, pots, pans, tablecloths, napkins) to prepare even the most elaborate meals. For guests wishing to enjoy their meals at the beach or in the park, takeaway food containers are also available. In the DINING ROOM, the walls proudly display some of the plates that George—an exporter of Sicilian wines and fruit—used to bring back as souvenirs for Maria from his business trips. Guests can dine while seated on original chairs by Fardella (Italy’s first manufacturer of bentwood furniture) and admire a reproduction of *L'Abbraccio* (The Embrace) by Francesco Lojacono. Lojacono was a leading 19th-century Italian landscape painter, known as "the thief of the sun" for the luminous quality of his canvases. In the LIVING ROOM, the sinuous lines of Art Deco seating, botanical-patterned cement floor tiles, the "Strawberry Thief" motifs on the William Morris upholstery, and a collection of historical maps frame a gramophone. Just as in the past, it plays Caruso’s rendition of "Addio Napoli"—a gift from a friend, the renowned Palermo-based publisher Mario Vittorietti. Since September 2024, this home has served as the moral custodian of the extensive historical record collection belonging to his brother, Pippo. The newly established LIBRARY will serve as the beating heart of the cultural guesthouse, offering guests access to 1,500 volumes on the history, art, architecture, archaeology, and social anthropology of Sicily and the Mediterranean, thanks to the generous donations of Mario Vittorietti (Pietro Vittorietti Edizioni), Marcello Alaimo (Regional Center for Inventory, Cataloging, and Documentation), Giuseppe Guerrera (Department of Architecture, University of Palermo), Giovanni Purpura (Ducezio Edizioni), and Renata Lavagnini (Sicilian Institute for Byzantine and Neo-Hellenic Studies). The BALCONIES enjoy triple exposure: eastward toward the Teatro Massimo and the medieval walls of San Vito that surround the historic center and the Arab-Norman serial site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site; northward to the profile of Monte Pellegrino and the 19th- and 20th-century city; and westward to Piazza Vittorio Emanuele Orlando and the Palace of Justice, the finest example of rationalist architecture in Sicily.
