Description

It's a feeling of calm that floods you instantly, and it won't go away until you find the right place. Whether you're nestled at the foot of the mountain. Tymfi, or hanging between the treetops in the central square of Vitsa, a mountain escape is unlike any other. The air is clean, the wildlife is captivating and the 360-degree view will take your breath away. It is your chance to feel completely alone and serene in tune with the nature that surrounds you. The space Zagori is an area in the Pindos mountain range, in Epirus, northwestern Greece, 30 km from the city of Ioannina. It has an area of 1,053 sq. km and includes Mount Mitsikeli (1,810 m), the Aoos River and Mount Tymfi with the smallest peak of Gamela at 2,500 m. In the area there are 46 protected areas of special architectural interest. Zagori is an area of great natural beauty, with impressive geology and geomorphology. In October 2010, it was declared "Vikos-Aoos Geopark" and joined the UNESCO European Geoparks Network. It includes two national forests, one of which includes the Aoos River and the Vikos Gorge, and another area around Valia Calda, east of the imposing snowy Tifos. Within the Vikos-Aoos National Park, the Vikos Gorge is the largest and most picturesque of the Zagori gorges. The gorge resembles water and stretches 12 kilometers in length and is recorded in the Guinness Book as the gorge with the smallest opening in the world and with a depth of over 1,000 meters is also the deepest gorge on the planet. There are about 2,100 species of plants in the area. Also very popular are the herbs with healing properties of the National Park, which were used by the famous Victorians (wandering practical healers) to treat any pain. 60 species of mammals, 180 species of birds, 14 species of amphibians (including the extremely rare alpine third - Triturusalpestris - in Drakolimni), 17 species of fish, 30 species of reptiles are endemic to this particular area. The particular morphology of the soil, the climate with frequent rainfall and snowfall, as well as the many rushing streams and rivers, required the construction of wooden and stone arched bridges, which served as communication between the settlements. All were built during the 18th and 19th centuries with the funding of wealthy residents or Turkish governors, who also gave their name to the bridge. Today, about 60 stone bridges are preserved throughout the area of North Pindos, which, depending on the width of the river, are mainly single, double or triple. From the village of Vitsa, the Vitsa staircase begins with the entrance to Viko. At the heart of the gorge is the two-arched bridge of Misi. Registration Details 0622K032A0033001
